How often and random is it? Is there a set number of testings that can be done? If they wanted to could they just deliver 700 pee cups and test everyone?

Once, around eleven years ago, I was hired by a larger corporation which required a drug test.
So, I was like, "Oh, no There's probably a detectable trace of THC in myself, so I went to a health food place on the east side of Buffalo, on Filmore avenue and bought something that blocks your liver for a window of a few hours.
The owner of this single proprietorship ( a woman in her late fifties or so ) told me that the local police are her biggest customers for this product.
No lie. She may have been but I doubt it.
Don't judge the cops though for using drugs. What an annoying job that must be.
    Note to cops:
If you're going to use drugs at work, just smoke weed. That's all....and oh yeah, coffee. You can have much coffee, too.

fficer #1: Hey, look. That looks to me like a drug deal going down over there. Let's go get these scumbags off the street!

fficer #2: Um....I think we should get a few slices instead.

If the testers were smart, they would use hair testing, as it can be good for a 6 month period.

What if they shave their heads?? Wasn't that one of the theories in the Brittany Spears hairstyle?

Spears is dumb as a box of rocks, as there are other places on the human body that have hair.

When you get older, you start to grow hair in weird places--don't worry it happens to everyone.

Drugs just do not show on head hair.

Besides if it is random, ten the employees should not know ahead of time that they are required to take the test.

    Mr BFLOCOP

Can I ask you how many random test are done throughout the year?

Are departments notified in any way a random drug test will happen?

Are drug test ran by like a non connected company so there's no chance of being tipped off?

I'm just wondering how it works.

The inspector calls up and says what officers to send down and they must be there in approx. 1 hour or be brought up on charges and then fired and yes the company running the test is an independent company. So i believe that this is pretty random seeing that no one knows when they get to work so no one can take off once they are already at work.

    Not bad....

If it was me I think just a random spot test would be more in order. Just out of the blue someone would show up at a station and say..... pee in the cup... If they are picking officers it's not random.

Sorry I just saw the thread...
While my colleague Unioncop is right he is not telling the whole story. We can be tested once a year and it is a computer generated list.(Don't ask me how the computer does it I don't know) The list is generated with say 50 names on it at the start of a shift. Sopposedly the computers pick them at random which is good, but I believe that if they get tips on someone he/she gets tested. Any of the names that are working must report to headquarters in an hour for the test done by an outside company. If you fail to show for the test you are FIRED with no chance of any union representation. (This was agreed to by PBA). If you fail you are FIRED. No PBA to save you. Believe it or not we fight all day and night to arrest drug addicts and dealers, we don't want to work with them too.

Ignore what facts??? Not like you seem to do, that the CB is the one holding back your pay raise not the city.

But to this thread I say the following:

I am glad that you were able to clarify how it is done in the city.

My contrubution to this thread is that of the following:

    1. Yse hair testing, instead of urine (previous post),
    2. Make it more random, by showing up at the precients to conduct the test (now made).

You do get touchy aon many issues, don't you (by making the above comment)..

Hair testing. Do you have any idea how expensive that is? Be realistic.

    Yes I do.

But the benefitsa outway the cost.

Hair testing can check on drug usage for up to 6 months, and can check on more drugs being used than a urine test can. A urine test can be faked a lot easrier than a drug test can.

Of course, you need to use the appropriate certified lab to get good results.

But you can also just get some shampoo and beat the hair test. However African-Americans can be discriminated against because the melanin in their hair can be mistaken for THC.
