Moslow With The Prez.

I really have no comment on the fact that Amherst Police Chief Moslow was included in the Bush panel this morning. I just thought I'd post it as a topic to see if anyone else has a thought.

Actually, now that I think of it, I do have a comment. He should have declined the invitation. He is NOT a politician. (Well, I guess he is now!) The event was a political event. I do not feel that police chiefs should take part in political rally's. My opinion of Moslow has dropped a little.

You bet it was a political event -political in the very truest sense of the word- wherein it was a lobbying effort pure and simple to ensure that Congress extends the Patriot Act to allow the various investigatory and prosecution agencies at all levels to continue to have access to all the information intelligence they can.

Every single member of the law enforcement community that was on that stage belonged that stage - John Moslow especially as president of the Association of Erie County Chiefs of Police.

The entire event was top-shelf, extremely well orchestrated and executed.
And if the current administration happened to have benefitted from the whole affair...Well then Hooray for "our side"!

Not a penny more than it cost American taxpayers anywhere else.
- with the possible exception of the overtime that citymouse, or someone he knows, needed for installing the snowfence that protected those protestors from people like you and me.

I thought that the police (Moslow) was hired to ENFORCE the laws not lobby to create, extend or extinguish laws. I guess Moslow feelsd that he knows what laws are worthy and what laws are not worthy. Is that really for him to decide on my behalf. I don't recall having a say in "electing" Moslow. If he's going to speak on my behalf, I'd like to know in advance! And, more importantly, I'd like to have a say in his continuance as my representative.

He had no place being on that stage.

You'll have to take that up with your Town Board who appointed him. You elect them to do that on your behalf.

I can't imagine even Dan Ward complaining about the Police Chief's participation in a lobbying effort to retain the tools that enable his department to do its job more effectively.

Come to think of it, it would have been be a dereliction of duty had he declined the invitation to appear.

I caught the tail-end of Adelphia Crossroads today- they had a show with different local viewpoints on the president's visit here. It repeats at 6:30 and 10 tonight I think so I want to catch the whole show. Didn't get to hear the speech, not a fan of Dubya but wanted to hear it anyway.

I don't know who Moslow is or why he was there, I guess it's just the same as for everyone else that was invited to attend.

The president didn't talk about job creation in Western New York, he didn't talk about crime prevention, or education and family values. The whole premise of his visit was to further the Patriot Act.

IMO- it took him longer to travel to and from the Airport than it did to give his speach. I think the whole thing was a waste of time & money.

What came out of his visit here that will better Western New York now?
