I believe the support for the suspension bridge is still visible today. though I could be mistaken.

Interesting factoid about the suspension bridge: The first line for the bridge was carried from one side to the other using a kite.

I think Wikipedia has it wrong. That story is attributed to the suspension bridge at the Whirlpool. These pictures are at the Rainbow. There is a website which documents the history of the NF Bridges out there somewhere. If I get a minute I will post the address.

Basically there were three bridges at Rainbow, three at Whirlpool and two at Lewiston. Only one in Buffalo and the Peace Bridge was the last to be built in 1927.

The wreckage at the bottom of the gorge just north of the Rainbow Bridge is the Honeymoon bridge, which fell into the gorge in 1939.
