Opinions Vary on Erie County's Refugee StanceBuffalo, NY (WBEN) - After it was determined that one of the Paris suicide bombers got into France posing as a Syrian refugee, Erie County legislator Joe Lorigo called on County Executive Mark Poloncarz to reverse his stance on bringing Syrian refugees to Erie County.
"Nobody is saying that the legitimate refugees shouldn't have a place to go," Lorigo told WBEN. "What I'm saying is that until we can have a better way to guarantee that we're doing everything we possibly can to ensure the safety of the residents of Erie County.

Doesn't mean the County Exec can not say "We just don't need to risk the safety of the residents of Erie County" including adding any more cost to county government.Poloncarz said in his statement that the decision to allow refugees into the US is made by the federal government and the placement made by federal and state governments.
"Neither the County Executive nor any branch of Erie County government has any say in whether any refugee is resettled in our community, nor can we prevent a legal immigrant from being resettled here."
Perhaps some of the welfare cost come from the federal level but the county employee salaries comes from property taxes in Erie County. Correct?
"The County doesn't have a say in this," said Legislator Patrick Burke. "We don't have a role in deciding whether refugees come here or not. Once their here, we have a role in facilitating and incorporating them in to our community. I saw (what Lorigo said) and am questioning why this is being taken up on such a local level."
Well we do have a say. Us property owners can vote out each legislator who supports importing 1000's of refugees into the county. I'm pretty sure county property taxes goes to support anyone on social services. There simply is no reason to add to that burden.
I think it's far more "Un-american" not to support current American citizens in need before adding more people from different countries."To shut the door on these people doesn't seem like a very American thing to do," said Legislator Kevin Hardwick. "You're balancing your own security versus what you should do as an American. It's a difficult thing to balance."
It's not hard to balance at all.

It is all about getting the future vote of these new immigrants.
I can't believe that these new immigrants will have no cost to the tax payers of Erie County, now or in the future.
Russia didn't make me vote for Trump, Hillary did.
Uncle Chuck wants to "pause" the program, his followers are going to be upset with him
In Belgium and France what they are finding is , they are getting involved with radicals - after they are allowed in ! They find it hard to assimilate , they cant find employment so crime is a easy way to get money. Even though they are mostly being handed food , rent money and subsistence - they want more.
They become vary susceptible to radical ideology and actions!
What's gonna be any different when they get here - many radicals are here already.

I've heard people quoting the Bible saying we should welcome the stranger. You are bad if you don't welcome the stranger. But welcoming the stranger in biblical times meant something totally different than what it means for America to accept hundreds of thousands of third-world Muslim refugees. The biblical stranger is a "sojourner" and a sojourner is someone who is staying temporarily among you as they are passing through to another place. The quote is associated with the Jews as they made their way out of the wilderness into the Promised Land and were sometimes met by villagers with water and food.
It wasn't a lifetime of benefits or burdensome to the villagers.
First and foremost America must stop funding and arming rebels/terrorists.
Everything that's happening right now is a direct result of our Government funding and arming the Islamists who are fighting Assad .

HWhat is happening in Europe, what has been happening since before 9/11 in Europe, is refugees are marginalized by the larger community. Think Tea Party attitudes towards immigrants. They gravitate back towards their religion, where they are recruited. Not too much different than joining a gang or sweet little Betty from from Iowa becoming a prostitute in the big city thanks to her new friend, the caring pimp.
The US has always been far more welcoming. One reason why we are not Europe. Tolerance is (was) our virtue. But that alone won't keep us safe anymore. Hell, we cannot stop crazy people from shooting up schools and malls.

B.B. has just once again proved beyond a doubt - he has drank so much of the Pro Dem Cool Aid he just cant stop regurgitating every smoke screen they throw up .
What happened in 911 is exactly related to what's happening now - we just keep funding the "Rebels/terrorists" - as they grow and gain power - they turn on us using our own resources. Wake up !

Can you say Noriega ,Kaddafi, Husain, Bin Laden and so on !
Big Daddy Kennedy actually supported Hitler !
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hitler gave Ford Germany's Highest award for supporting Hitler from 1924 to 1944
2 of hitlers best friends were Rockefeller and Prescott Bush who Financed Hitlers Rise to Chancellor thus causing WW2
Hitler had no problem with American Industries as None of Americas Companies were Nationalised , after all Ford Chrysler Built all of Hitlers Trucks whilst GM'S German factory Built Hitlers Tanks.
Standard Oil was supplying the NAZIS with Fuel and Oil up to 1944 as was SKF supplying all of NAZI Germany's Ball bearings until 1945.

ONo. Again, S L O W L Y for you, there is a cultural marginalization at work in Europe. It drives radicalization. It doesn't exist to the same extent in this country, largely because "our Muslims" are better educated and we have been up to now, tolerant.
Politics don't enter into it. These are educated opinions built on experience. Yes, there are outliers and no amount of intelligence or protection is perfect. Our own experiences with gun violence are proof of that.
And I get the whole military industrial complex argument. It has been around for 50 years now, most recently illustrated by the Iraq debacle. But it, like the refugee discussion, has little to do with Paris except to feed the xenophobes.

Its not as pronounced here yet because we don't have entire suburban areas or cities deluges by them yet ! But you'll help change that - right !
Politics don't enter into it. BS - Politics started the wars - Politics cause the exoduses - Politics is in every level of everyday life !
These are educated opinions built on experience. Yes, there are outliers and no amount of intelligence or protection is perfect. Our own experiences with gun violence are proof of that. What - are you saying here - someone said "Politics don't enter into this" - who's educated opinion was that - President Obama or you ?
