Read the first post.....your post.
Are we really talking about schedule and how much time something takes and Amtrak at the same time?
We're talking about on line, the Lake Shore Limited. Just make it work. Double up the engines and back it out. You have to double back in Los Angeles and it's not an issue there. There are other places as well....
The carriers resist to anything and everything. It's what they do. Mentioning they are against something is like saying water is wet.
You're missing the entire point.
For the NCAA only a single teams location would be serviced by a train and that's ND. I think they passed on the 9hr train ride on the Lake Shore Limited...
This train station, for me at least, is about making a better pitch for regional travel. That's it. It's about getting people from Toronto and Rochester to Buffalo. It's about connecting Buffalo to Niagara Falls. I know these connections exist but you have to consider the experience and that includes the stations. Because it's the experience that sells the regional tourism.
This is also why the station needs to be as cheap as possible and just a station...not a rebuild the ghetto silver bullet. It's not going to draw people from Chicago or NYC. It's not about that.
It's about bringing in people for Bills and Sabres games or special events on the water. It's about getting people from Buffalo to the Falls in a nice station to nice station experience so they don't say our side sucks...like it does.

Really it should be no bigger and probably smaller than the current Boston South Station.
Leftie, I went back and read my first post. What I saw didn't contain any of the things you attribute to me but that's ok. If you say I said them in my first post I guess I must have said them. So you think we're only doing this to attract people from Rochester? The Bills ran a train years ago during the good old days and I guess it did ok at the time. The reason people don't take the train isn't the stations; it's the horribly unreliable service, antiquated rolling stock that's likely to be freezing in the winter and sweltering in the summer, rail staff who are surly in the extreme. And lest anyone say that I've never ridden the train, I've ridden Amtrak many times and the experiences have been uniformly terrible. I've never, and I mean never, gotten to my destination near on time. I once had the exciting experience of almost meeting a freight train coming in the other direction on the same track in the Mohawk valley however.
CSX already took the 2nd track out of Amtrak Exchange street Station because it wasn't needed, because the trains are several hours a part
you can see were the 2nd track use to be on the video

Assemblyman Ryan: Canalside should not be considered for train station
http://www.wkbw.com/news/assemblyman...-train-stationBUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - New York State Assemblyman Sean Ryan is asking the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC) to take Canalside out of the running as a potential location for the new Buffalo train station.
Ryan says he is concerned all the years that went into planning Canalside will go to waste if the train station was located there instead of the Central Terminal.
"We have spent a significant amount of time and money planning for the future of Canalside," Ryan said. "A train station at Canalisde would throw a wrench into many years of expensive planning."

The reason people don't take the train is because the schedule sucks and most station locations suck. By and large Amtrak has 2 types of passengers. People with no 'schedule' and people who can't afford to fly.
The weekend traveler is someone without a schedule. Even if Amtrak is running 30 minutes late...it does not matter. So yes, I think the focus of Amtrak service should be the regional weekend traveler. That is the pot of gold for Buffalo. That is the person coming in for a Sabres or Bills game. A person coming in for a weekend to party in Buffalo.
Like it or not...in the summer and fall...Buffalo is pretty awesome. It is absolutely something that can be sold to Southern Ontario, Rochester and Syracuse.
The idea that Buffalo needs to locate a train station around getting people TO Cleveland and TO Chicago is simply moronic. Tourists are not coming FROM Chicago or FROM Cleveland TO Buffalo. There is no reason.
But they do come from Southern Ontario, Rochester and Syracuse. They come because of shared fandom for the Bills and Sabres and for Shopping rates.

Maybe Higgins will send more than an aid to the next meeting.

So it's really 6 trains a day?Ken Nizialek
With only six trains a day we must face reality. This is not going to expand in the future. The only fiscally responsable choice is to build a new station at Depew which is more than adequate for Amtrak use. Let's save $50,000,000 and spend it on something useful, nostalgia.

Yeppers, 6 trains a day and about 100 people - let's go cheap since we don't even need it! Also, who wants to get out at Central Termnal across from the sex offender boarding house?

Here in Texas. The High speed rail proposal is basically a private venture.
Which means it might actually be a needed and profitable service.
Most of the other projects are gubmint (taxpayer) projects and have met with various degrees of failure.
If Buffalo was attractive to Rochesterians they would be making the 2 Hr. drive to the nickle city like I did many times in my Kodak years.
Just another feel good diversion from what Buffalo needs to really do to attract Tourists.
Just like the canal restoration.

Lake Shore Limited, The Chicago Train is scheduled to come into Buffalo around Midnight and 99% of the time, It's running late and it don't arrive to 2am or 3am and most passengers on the train are a sleep in their viewliners sleeping cars. Also If you look at the Train Station plans for CT. It using only 5% to 10% of Central Terminal, The other 90% to 95% is still going be vacant. and their's only 1 Platform and 1 Track. The Concourse is going over a large grass lawn were they used to be 15 passenger Tracks & platforms and the Downtown Train Station plan isn't much bigger then the current station just a longer platform with a single track

3 lines. Lakeshore, Maple and Empire. Arrive and Depart.
Here is where the guy you quoted was wrong. Depew is even worse of a location than the CT. Depew is for people who use the train like they would use the airport. Tiny amount of people.
Just for a moment think of yourself as a Toronto Maple Leafs fan or a Buffalo Bills fan from Pittsford NY. Add to this imagine the Bills have built a stadium downtown.
Now go ahead and plan a trip from Toronto or Pittsford via train for a Saturday night hockey game or a Sunday Bills game. Plan the logistics if the station is in Depew and plan it if the station is downtown. Consider how you're going to get to your hotel and to the game.
If you work thought this it's clear as to where the station needs to go. They are right. Rail travel, at least for travel to compete with air, is not going to expand in the future. High Speed Rail is not going to happen in NY. Not after watching what happened in CA. But regional rail travel is something that can and does work. It's HUGE in Southern California. The amount of people in LA that go to San Diego for the weekend and the amount of people in San Diego that go to LA...all via the Surfliner...is huge.
Should also note that Brown is never someone who has taken a stand on his own before. He has always played it safe. The only reason he would go against Higgins and Grassroots on the east side is because he knows something. He knows the plans of Pegula.
