State surcharge being added to utility bills

State surcharge being added to utility bills

ROCHESTER—Your energy bill is about to go up but don’t blame the utility this time, blame the State of New York.

Starting on the April bill, all electric customers in New York will see a state surcharge added to their bills. Governor Andrew Cuomo and state regulators made an arrangement with the failing upstate nuclear power plants to help subsidize operational and repair costs to keep them open until a more robust “green” market can be established to handle electric demand.

Basically, the new state surcharge will be used to subsidize the power plants and to incentivize other companies to build and maintain alternative electric options.

Is it per kwh? If so I wonder how that works for those of us with solar who are net zero consumers.

The media mentioned that this tax does currently exist in Lackawana ..have no idea what the politics on the school board will institute..but this could become an epedemic. .a way around raising the school tax to stay under the cap...hold on to your wallets

One wonders when the above happens will the surcharge be removed?

It will never be removed. Just like the "temporary sales tax"

I would say remember the local people in the www.ecdems.com social club who support his nonsense. Go to your town board and voice your opinion. If you guys/girls continue to support the club and people they represent we have to get rid of you. Simple as that. Look at what the Cheektowaga Democratic party has done to our town. We are one of the highest taxed areas in the nation and honestly services are nothing to write home about. I'm not saying they are bad or good. You can get the same services for less in many towns across the USA.

Just another added expense on top of what we pay now to live in NYS
