Do Lancaster teachers get a 5 year contract? Do Lancaster police get a 5 year contract ? The hardest working Lancaster highway, forestry, and recreation deptment do you have a 5 year contract?
I did forget to mention that it was his 12-16 salary that I posted. And I did get a raise this year, 1.7% I believe. Rise in health insurance (thanks Obama) cancelled some of it out.

Because my property taxes went up, and with this proposed budget my school taxes also. We have to remember, both property & school taxes combined become a bigger number. Residents who can't endure those increases, will struggle.

If you live in Lancaster, your property taxes should've gone down...

Indeed Neubs, indeed! Every Town of Lancaster property owner should have seen a 0.11% decrease in their town taxes this past year. In fact, some who comment that town taxes have increased significantly in the past several years may find the following data interesting.

In the past six budgets the town has increased taxes but one year:

    Tax Rate Decreases / Increase*

    2017: -0.11%
    2016: +0.82%
    2015: -1.65%
    2014: -14.06%
    2013: -0.95%
    2012: -0.74%

In the budget year of 2012 the amount of taxes levied on a home assessed at $100,000 was $969.34. In the 2017 town budget year the amount levied was $905.79.

*Data from Town Website Budget Archives

Your tax bill was higher due to the 5.9% increase in County taxes not town

After reading the trivial garrulity of the original poster of the closed thread who is a local Republican, I may have to turn left after the Lenten season, if that's an example of their modus operandi for this election season

You are right, and because the override in the tax cap and the negotiations on the police contract, my taxes will go up.

There was no override of the tax cap last year and until the 2018 town budget comes out or the police contract negotiations are settled all is mere speculation.

Aren't we referring to the upcoming proposed budget in November for the 2018 budget? I was there when they voted to override the tax cap.

That was the 2017 budget, and they did it as a precautionary measure.

    Thank you Neubs!

And it is not a carry over. It is a one shot where the process to be eligible for a tax cap override must be repeated annually.
