Because my property taxes went up, and with this proposed budget my school taxes also. We have to remember, both property & school taxes combined become a bigger number. Residents who can't endure those increases, will struggle.

Indeed Neubs, indeed! Every Town of Lancaster property owner should have seen a 0.11% decrease in their town taxes this past year. In fact, some who comment that town taxes have increased significantly in the past several years may find the following data interesting.
In the past six budgets the town has increased taxes but one year:
Tax Rate Decreases / Increase*
2017: -0.11%
2016: +0.82%
2015: -1.65%
2014: -14.06%
2013: -0.95%
2012: -0.74%
In the budget year of 2012 the amount of taxes levied on a home assessed at $100,000 was $969.34. In the 2017 town budget year the amount levied was $905.79.
*Data from Town Website Budget Archives
After reading the trivial garrulity of the original poster of the closed thread who is a local Republican, I may have to turn left after the Lenten season, if that's an example of their modus operandi for this election season
