Mesa's Fiesta Mall closure
Jan. 9, 2017
It happened just two months before Christmas, a telling sign of the times for Mesa's Fiesta Mall.
That's when national electronics big-box retailer Best Buy shuttered its store at the mall. The two-story anchor building was constructed in 2007 for the store, which relocated from across the street. Dick's Sporting Goods occupied the top floor of the building and vacated a year ago.
Many residents may see Best Buy's closing as another nail in the coffin of the once premier regional shopping center at Alma School Road and Southern Avenue. Today, more than half of the mall's spaces are vacant , including half of the food court. An AT&T store closed after Christmas.
Goodbye, Metrocenter Mall: Why A Developer Plans To Demolish A Phoenix Landmark
October 13, 2016
When Metrocenter mall opened in 1973 many considered it "the place" to go in Phoenix. Located just off Interstate 17 between Dunlap and Peoria Avenues, Metrocenter was believed to be the first mall west of the Mississippi River to have five department stores.
Today, just two remain open and the mall sits in the middle of a city-designated blight area.
People who wonder if the glass is half empty or full miss the point. The glass is refillable.
But i thought there was no blight in Phoenix.....
Let me articulate this for you:
"I'm not locked in here with them. They're locked in here with me!!"

The Metro Centre & Fiesta Mall were built in the early 1970's and were victim of the old age. not because of a horrible economy & population loss's like WNY
Also 100's of new modern malls & shopping centre's were built near them , and several more are under construction & being planned. Metrocenter is already being replaced with a new Super Walmart Shopping center & several 15 to 20 story mid rises which will be a mix of office, condo's & apartments. Also a new light rail line connecting Metro Centre to Valley Rail system will open in 2019

Also Their is Castles & Costers Amusement/Water Park at Metro Centre https://youtu.be/G94Ctj7UMMA Doesn't look like blight or what most of the City of Buffalo looks like ?
Speaking of the Fiesta mall, Next store to the Fiesta Mall is Golf World/Sun Splash which keeps expanding every year https://youtu.be/QKmuKYWhsyg
One of the many water parks, amusement parks and several more new ones coming to AZ
Looks like blight ? See what are real tourist attractions are ?
That what happens when WNY's corrupt politician's & unions keep stuffing their pockets and pay
the local TV, Radio Station's & local news paper to keep the people dumb & stupid
