One of the reasons the BPS can't be reformed is that city tax payers have almost no skin in the game since the state pays 80% of the freight and consequently city tax payers are not paying for an overflowing toilet.

Cheektowaga is just comical at this point when you look at how much people pay for what they get.

Brown has already said they are not going to 'raise taxes' in Buffalo. The end around is they are going to raise the hell out of property assessments for 2018-19 fiscal year, which just happen to be after the next mayoral election. Homes that are currently assessed at less than $120k are being sold for north of $350k. It's going to be a shock to the system for sure.

Some people are really going to make out in this...and good for them. The ones who held on or got in early are going to have a good chance to cash out. But the folks who are trendy and overpaying to live near the 'rising' neighborhoods are going to be in for a bit of a wake up call. I just hope Buffalo spends the money well. Doubt it...but one can still hope.

What are the sustainable solutions implemented while the Cheektowaga Democratic Party controlled our town for 2016?

The article says they were rattled off but failed to tell us property/business owners what they were. Why is that?

Did the town board do anything to cut labor budgets? Something us home owners would see immediately not 25+ years from now?

Working with the ECIDA and our business consultant we were able to retain hundreds of jobs, create up to 50 new jobs jobs in the near future with the combined multi-million-dollar expansion of four businesses in 2016
I didn't know we have a business consultant. That's good. I wish I had a photo of our town board when the business consultant told the town board the best thing for businesses in Cheektowaga is replace you guys. That really isn't a joke when you see countless people flee our town because of high taxes.

It also isn't a joke when our board members support policy that is actively supported by the www.ecdems.com. I've been told "we don't support that" policy but in the end you see them at fund raisers and photo ops for people like Hillary etc.

Linda Hammer, Tim Meyers and James Rogowski
I was told these seats are up for replacements.

From our state of the Town address:

It is no secret that Cheektowaga is the highest taxed municipality in Erie
County. I realize our Town provides more services than neighboring
Towns, but it is important to not tax our residents out of their homes and
their neighborhoods. That is why I have been vigilant since day one
doing my best to bring spending under control and ease the burden on
    our taxpayers.
It isn't that the cheektowaga democratic party provides "more" services than other towns. It is that we pay more for the same services than other towns for the most part.

There is no more important role as Supervisor than preparing and
submitting a budget. I am proud to say my first budget decreased the
total 2016 budget by $142,400 and there was no increase in the tax levy.
As a budget goes look at page 29

    http://www.tocny.org/Portals/0/Depar...ompilation.pdf

Our budget is $92,355,819. Remember this doesn't include what we are forced to pay for school taxes.

$142,000 / $92,355,819 = a savings in the budget of .00153 percent. I don't know if that is something to brag about.

Some of these items are one time savings so we must look for more
structural long term solutions. Every day we must remain vigilant for
wasteful or extravagant spending. I am proud of the budget we were
able to pass for the 2017 fiscal year, but each and every year will get
more difficult to find these savings.

One aspect of trying to limit the Town’s financial burden was finding an
alternative way to fund the many festivals held in our town throughout
the year. I have sought out and have been successful this past year in
forming a public / private partnership to run the many community
festivals that are synonymous with Cheektowaga. Last year we teamed
up with the Variety Club to organize a revamped Crabapple festival and
this year we will continue the partnership and look to make it a better
experience for our residents. Last year, we saved the taxpayers
thousands by teaming up with a non-profit organization to run the Polish
Festival. This year, I am happy to announce we are partnering with the
Chamber of Commerce, the Senior Center Foundation and Youth
Foundation to organize and run our Polish Festival. The Town will
again save thousands in associated costs and continue to provide a fun
and family oriented festival that can continue for generations. We will
also be able to continue with our traditional War of 1812 parade and
ceremony, and the 4th of July Parade.
Cut salary's/benefit cost. That is what business do when they price themselves out of a market and lose clients. Just like the town is losing population.

Happens every day in the private sector.

    Addressing Resident Concerns
As promised last year, I have initiated a new resident complaint tracking
system. The Town is able to make sure any resident complaints,
concerns and questions are being responded to and resolved in a timely
manner. Over 3,000 complaints, concerns and general inquiries were
received and responded to in 2016.
    That is a good thing.

How does a property owner review the list of complaints? It would be interesting to see which department has the most complaints and what procedures are being put into place to lower that number.

    http://www.tocny.org/Home.aspx

We have a link "Supervisor's Hotline" that takes you here.

Is the data going into a database for review? I would add some data selections to the complaint form. One choice would be "department". This way we can easily tally up which department has the most complaints. 3000 complaints. I'm assuming a lot are just people complaining about their neighbors but I would like to see official "town" complaints when it comes to services.

I think we would be told that is "private" information seeing it involves home owners and/or employees. They should track statistical data per department though. Also by area of town.
