If Christopher didn't make the voyage would the USA be here today? Yes or no?
At Italian Fest, they fly Italian flags, eat Italian food, play Italian music... It's a festival about Italy.
That's not what Columbus Day is about. Columbus Day is about celebrating Christopher Columbus.
If Christopher didn't make the voyage would the USA be here today? Yes or no?

Yes.
To start, not only didn't Columbus discover North America...he never stepped foot on North America. Last time I checked, the USA is in North America. Which makes it rather funny that some parts of the US have a holiday for him.....
The first to hit North America were the Norse...about 500 years before Columbus was born. But if you want to trace the 'discovery' of what is now the USA history you can start with Ponce de Leon in Florida about 20 years after Columbus.
Even still...these all have very little to do with the question of would the USA be here today. Those folks hit a rock in Plymouth and brought with them the seeds of what would become the nation we now call the United States of America.

The Real Story Behind Plymouth Rock
http://www.history.com/news/the-real...-plymouth-rockEven though its historical provenance is dubious, Plymouth Rock has had a tumultuous history all its own. After emerging as a colonial symbol of liberty, the stone has been moved from place to place, split it two and whittled away at by souvenir hunters. Still, the Pilgrims' purported landing place endures. Explore the real history of Plymouth Rock.
Two words inevitably cross the lips of first-time visitors to Plymouth Rock: “That’s it?”
