    The Forgotten City

    http://knucklecityfilms.com/forgotten.html

    ABOUT THE FILM

The Forgotten City is a soul stirring documentary taking place in Buffalo, New York exploring race relations, segregation, crime, and politics. Through exclusive breathtaking footage and one-on-one interviews with many citizens and some of Buffalo's most influential leaders, The Forgotten City exposes the bitter truth about Buffalo and all inner cities. It challenges stereotypes, encourages change and shakes up the status quo. Buffalo was once a booming city; one of richest in the United States and is now a place where crime, racism and poverty plague a once great city.

This film is a personal journey of two young filmmakers who forged an unlikely partnership following a 2001 murder; one a friend of the victim and the other a friend of the murderer. Instead of waging war, they embarked on a documentary film project that would take them into the heart of Buffalo's most dispossessed communities and crime ridden streets. The result of their exploration is a documentary film with a raw, hard-hitting, unblinking first-hand look at the way some of us really live in America. This film brings to light the racial turmoil and economic hardships that have become the lifestyle of so many living in Buffalo’s inner city.

The Forgotten City, however, is not simply a film about the problems that plague Buffalo's inner city; it can easily be the story of any American city and is a film that everyone should see.

    THE PRODUCTION TEAM

Korey Green and Addison Henderson of Knuckle City Films shared a vision to create a documentary about Buffalo and forged a partnership to create The Forgotten City.

    Addison Henderson
Addison Henderson has a background in acting and filmmaking. He began formal training as an actor at the prestigious HB Studios in New York City, where he studied with world renowned instructors Edward Morehouse, Austin Pendleton and Eleanor Harris and appeared in various onstage productions. As a director Addison has directed for the stage, the most famous being “Blood Knot”, a two man play about South African Brothers, a play in which he also starred. In March of 2005, Addison directed his first film “Step Away from a Note” in which he also played title role. Since then, he has gone on to direct and star in two short films. Most recently, in 2005 Addison directed and produced “The Harvest of a Continent”, a documentary in Ghana, West Africa.

    Korey Green
Korey Green, though a newcomer to filmmaking, has been a resident of Buffalo his entire life. Korey grew up on the tortured East side of Buffalo and has lived the “inner city perspective” on a daily basis. Korey believes that this documentary will not only change people in Buffalo, but throughout the nation. He believes The Forgotten City, “will be something that everyone can relate to because these topics have no boundaries”.

I went and saw this movie at the old high school and it was REALLY good. I was kind of dissapointed that they didn't mention anything about the Falls but the main focus was on Buffalo, and these guys are trying to get this movie shown nationally which would shed spotlight on what Buffalo is really going through right now.

    It was really deep.....

Well the Mayor is Black and the School Superintendent

Well the Mayor is Black and the School Superintendent as well as significant representation on the Buffalo Common Council.

Thank god Buffalo isnt Cleveland with 2x as many african americans as Buffalo. Buffalo is lucky atleast in having large hispanic and asian populations because normally cities that dominated by african american minorities are some of the worst cities in the nation.

African Americans just wont go against school unions and support school vouchers and school choice nor will the african american community stand up and demand an increase in charter schools

New England and Midwestern cities rivaled the great european cities with art, culture, transportation, industry, etc....that is until the african american migration from the south to the north. Every african american dominated section of a city is filled with drugs, alcohol, addictions, fatherless and in many cases motherless kids, welfare, gangs, violent crime, etc.

Its so endemic into african american culture that its memorialized in black rap music to despise education, employment, faith, family and marriage.

Its so endemic that its african american representation in the municipal government cant fix it and if african american representation is the majority its pretty much guarranteed that corruption and patronage will stagnate the city from any competent management, leadership, planning and change.

Brown may dress well but so far he is a listener and not a leader. Considering the mouth of black victimization and ebonics....perhaps we should count ourselves lucky...we could have gotten gotten an african american that has been up north for 4 generations and still talks like ALFALFA and still feeds the black rage and victimization to feed their political career.

Here is hoping that Brown proves this theory wrong!

Some of the MOST AFFLUENT towns in America are predominently Black. However, many of you enjoy the Hypersegregation that has kept blacks at the bottom - and whose fault is it? Not the blacks.

Moving to a better neighborhood also allows families to pass on their status attainments to their children, putting them in a position to achieve even more than their parents have. The new neighborhood typically offers better schools characterized by smaller class sizes, more motivated, well-educated teachers, sound and attractive buildings, state-of-the-art classrooms, and a greater abundance of academic and extracurricular resources. In addition, the peer environments within these schools are likely to reward educational achievement and emphasize college aspirations while denigrating delinquency and risky oppositional behaviors.

African Americans, because of their systematic segregation in American society, have had the first rungs of the mobility ladder effectively placed out of reach. If African Americans do not have access to housing markets because of the color of their skin, then they do not have access to critical social and economic resources that are distributed through housing markets because they are determined by place of residence. A segregated society is thus a stratified and unequal society and can never be considered "race blind." Only when we can honestly say that the United States was rather than is a segregated society, can we begin to think of it as a truly just nation.

Until White WNY wants to integrate Blacks in White neigborhoods, you will get the same results.

I haven't seen the movie, but I hope this movie gets more exposure because I don't think it's just a "Buffalo story".

Here's a link to a site about "ruins" in Detroit ... the industrial ones echo the second movie clip: Motown

whats the matter Linda, your politically correct liberalism cant discuss this topic

whats the matter Linda, your politically correct liberalism cant discuss this topic

liberalism cant fix the public schools
liberalism cant fix black truancy or any truancy for that matter
liberalism cant fix kids abandoned by fathers and mothers
liberalism cant fix the replacement of the state of self responsibility and family
liberalism cant fix drugs, gangs, addictions, prostitution, pornography

liberalism cant fix the warehousing of the poor in municipal housing ghettos that perpetuate the above as societal norms instead of mixing them with the rest of society

why because a person isnt a person in liberalism....they are a number to which the people who win the race to the bottom (no capability for independence and self responsibility) win the lottery that is if they dont win the race by winding up in jail or prison.

but you go ahead and continue to deflect any discussion as prejudice and racist....and in doing so you are part of the problem of perpetuating this injustice well into the future and destroying the lives of minorities with them. African Americans need to face up to the facts of their community and those who feed off of their community.

First you espouse opinions about Jews that sound, to say the very least, suspiciously like Nazi propaganda ...

Now you've moved on to African Americans. You claim "a person isnt a person in liberalism ..." [sic] but then you slap all African Americans with the same racist brush ...

Sorry, Timmy, but if it looks like a duck and it quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck ... If you haven't figured it out yet, I don't like bigotry and racism, and I especially don't like it when people try to wrap it up a pretty package of political ideology and try to pass it off as legitimate politics. Well, it aint -- and I'll call you on it every time I see it.

a-new-voice, who is keeping blacks out of white neighborhoods?

a-new-voice, who is keeping blacks out of white neighborhoods?

    First its illegal
Second america is segregated not by race but by income!
Third there are plenty of black, hispanic and asian families in so called white communities

the place to look for what holds back the black community is not racism but from the liberal government programs and from the black community itself.

Yes whites move out of white neighborhoods so their kids can attend more competitive schools that reward achievement...thats not a race thing.

The liberal government programs reward the race to irresponsibility. The less education, the more fatherless and motherless households, etc....the greater the qualifications for government programs....which are little more than addictive rewards for anti-social irresponsible behaviors...thats whats holding the african american community back

Furthermore,....its not white racism or white employers thats holding the african american community back but black anger, black attitude and threats of discriminative lawsuits......its the black tolerance for truancy, the black contempt for education, the black acceptance of fatherless children and now motherless children.....now you can blame the white community historically for unweaving the social fabric of the black community to the point where the government had to pick up the pieces but you cannot dismiss that its the black community mindset that is perpetuating their poverty too!

I've already countered you on everything you said, but racism is ignorance and ignorant people refuse to listen and learn.
