Kayak Rentals Buffalo NY
Wasn't a bad day to be out on the water. A bit breezy.
Didn't know the Columbia is still docked down there
I think this it:

There are some that need to go. They're rotting and an eyesore and maybe 1 or 2 that could be refurbished enough to symbolize Buffalo's history
Let me articulate this for you:
"I'm not locked in here with them. They're locked in here with me!!"

There are those who feel that the more mind numbingly stupid something is the more it is worthy of historic preservation.
Those are the people who tend not to have any money involved in the project or development. I do believe there is some value in saving some of the older buildings. What I don't understand is the small group of people who don't realize the rehab cost can easily outweigh what ever historical value there is. You see all the crap I post up on Buffalo history. I see next to no historic value in those silos. Most of the people floating on the water didn't really care about what history was connected to the silos either. They were there to see the duck, some festival and to enjoy the water.
This was along the shore. Is this active equipment?
Here is something I think is a safety hazard
Look at the very left of the photo where that rusted metal gantry is. There are 3 pieces of metal that looks like they are attached by the upper corner. As we were going by I said "one good gust of wind and that might fall right down". On our way back there were boats and kayaks going right along there.

It's my understanding that they are really difficult and expensive to demolish, due to the amount of concrete and rebar.
Did you see how easy the silos came down in the video?
There has to be time limit to how long do you hang on to something as they decay. I really like Buffalo History but I just don't see "history" with rusted gantries and concrete. Let us say Buffalo was going to pick just one group to save which group is in the best condition? Are there any silos still active along the lake?

With the waterfront finally being developed, moving up river is natural. The rusted heaps need to go

I haven't been able to watch the video, but I went to Riverworks this week where they have some ruins of a silo. I took a picture, there is a ton of heavy duty rebar and concrete in these things.

These silos only mean something to a few people in buffalo and that gets smaller every generation that passes. You want to see something cool? Go to the Colisseum, which most young people could give a crap about even if they could get their heads out of the smart phones.
In a 100 years people will be flocking to see and worshiping the big blue water tower in Amherst.
