A big problem with south buffalo is people are moving out to suburbia.
“Two percent of the people think; three percent of the people think they think; and ninety-five percent of the people would rather die than think.”
Your point is well taken - but thats the true shame. More and more are moving out - and many like myself are Employed in Buffalo. I owned five houses at one time - now only two in Buffalo and one where I live.
Jobs are the main issue - I believe. But, too many people are Dependant on tax funded careers as well. You have many families that are second and third generation Government Employees. The older ones would stay, then in the last twenty years or so, the new ones started sliding out.
Anyway, Personally I have two friends who are actively investing in South Buffalo. They buy homes, rehab them and rent them out. Neither has used anything but their own money and friends for labor when ever possible.
I have spent hundreds of full days laboring to help them. We gutted one house to the bare studs and completely rewired, re-plumbed and drywalled the entire two story house. No small task, it took two years.
We actually had neighbors come and help - free when ever they could. It was nice to see how others reacted. We'd sometimes show up to find sandwich's on the porch. After a while we actually left a key on the porch. Nothing was ever taken or damaged.
The worst thing that ever happened was some one or more people had a beer party there. The neighbors said they were so quite, they thought we were plastering or something. Not one nail was missing and the owner was more than glad to return the 30+ beer cans - he's the kind of guy that straightens nails to reuse them.
I believe south buffalo is a strong market, its just getting old. With the loss of waterfront employment, steel plants and such - it just needs help. Like every neighborhood in our city.
#Dems play musical chairs + patronage and nepotism = entitlement !
but you forget its 2009 stimulus funds vs. byron's brown 2010 budget that made sure south was $0 in projects for next year and if you're going to quote bits and peices, you should balls up post it all, stimulus for 2009 for many districts!

don't go picking and choosing what stimulus south buffalo got when the truth is many districts got the same if not more in 2009 and it doesn't compare to byron brown scratching south out of his 2010 city of buffalo budget. i see you have yet to comment about how we pay your salary and you thinks its fine to go online to complain about a group who finds it right to protest BYRON BROWN'S budget because south is $0 and ellicott is almost $3 MILLION in 2010.

as does EVERY district in the budget. 8 0f 9 have funding for additional projects, ellicott almost $3 MILLION and south $0. most services are city-wide, police, fire. 4248 is playing politics hand and hand with byron brown. he'd **** a brick the day the mayor makes his department $0 while watching ellicott get almost $3 million for a swimming pool that will get more in 2010 then 2009's budget.
Maybe because south buffalo over all is better taken care of to begin with, duh?
If it weren't for the olmstead conservatory I would say they need to spend money on caz park and the circles.
They need to put money into a few of the other parks in the area. Hilary, okell, and a few others are in desperate need of repair. I don't see any of the local grassroots organizations even attempting to do anything about the parks. Maybe that would be a good project for you instead of fighting a mayor that you can't do anything about now.
Or here is another project for you to put your energy into, figure out a way to turn some empty lots into gardens. Before the olmstead committee took over the circles were taken care of by people in the neighborhood. People in south buffalo are great at taking care of their area for the most part and do a better job without outside influence.
“Two percent of the people think; three percent of the people think they think; and ninety-five percent of the people would rather die than think.”
First, like I said, you put him in, not me! He is the Mayor - I respect the man and the title - he wanted it - he earned it - live with it - He is.
Second this Mayor has been overly generous to "My Department" when it comes to supplies, trucks, pumpers and needed gear.
He could have spent about $12-13 Million more - if people manipulating Over Time weren't filling their retirement accounts with that money. People like you and some of the over time manipulating city employees.
(not all do it - and I know many who care enough to refuse it. - They are mocked by people like Unioncop and BFD Supervisors for not being, "Team Players")
Don't try to quiet me by pretending you know about my Politics or life. You don't give a rats behind about anyone but you and your needs - good for you. Try being honest - I want more for my family - so I worked two public sector jobs most of my life. I never had food stamps or inflated over time. I have been isolated and punished for speaking out.
I want nothing but what I work for and I want the least amount of Politics and Government as possible in my life.
Now go get your sign and cry for more tax dollars or support Mickey, what ever you'd like to pretend this is all about. Good Luck. Please try and consider the other 70% of the City that has done without!
#Dems play musical chairs + patronage and nepotism = entitlement !
yet you still had time to create this thread asking if south buffalo got screwed? i do respect your job but think about how you'd feel knowing the mayor put your department into his budget with $0 recommended. its how the people of south feel. you posted 8 items from a 2009 stimulus budget relating to south where i posted them all showing every district got money from the president. all of my posts have been about equality and the difference between ellicott's almost $3 million and south's $0. you asked me not to pretend i know you, so please not to pretend you know me, my interest is always the city of buffalo. the city, south just happens to be my neighborhood the mayor intentionally left out. i said before if it was delaware or any other district i'd support them the same as south.
[quote=bflo_resident1;580245]yet you still had time to create this thread asking if south buffalo got screwed?
That title line was "sarcasm" I don't believe SB has ever gotten screwed by Buffalo's tax payers, City Jobs, City Spending or any other City/Tax Funded opportunity.
i do respect your job but think about how you'd feel knowing the mayor put your department into his budget with $0 recommended.
Again, the Mayors "Budget" didn't exclude funding for SB Services , the proposed "EXTRA Capitol Spending Budget" hasn't been voted on yet.
If the Mayor cut funding for "Extras" for the BFD, we'd have to wait for next budget cycle and apply again. Everyone still gets their basic shares - just no extras like flat screen TVs and ping pong tables or
$133,000.00 tax funded "Signature Fireman Sculptures"
When have you ever spent as much time and effort to lobby for the East Side of Buffalo?
Have you ever organized a "Protest/Rally" for more tax money for the East Side of Buffalo ?

I live in South Buffalo.
I also am a companion to the East Side and its revival.
I find it discriminatory, absolutely discriminatory that South Buffalo is the only district that received 0 in the budget.
Not excusable, whatsoever. It's Byron Brown acting like a baby because someone ran against him from South Buffalo.
Grow up.
It is never right to leave anyone out who pays taxes. And although I am a friend of the east side, I would argue that there is probably a hell of a lot more tax dollars coming out of south buffalo than there are the east side.
If I'm paying tax dollars, there damned well better be some of that money coming back to my neighborhood.
I'd like to see data on this.
