    Lowes in Hamburg?

Interesting read in today's News about Lowes wanting to build a store on the north side of Southwestern between Howard and Sowles roads. It would be next to the Roundtree Village subdivision and would be the first big-box store on this stretch of Route 20. Two Board members appear to not think its a good location, even with significant buffering.

Walmart's current location is going to be empty soon, Lowes should really be encouraged to reuse that site at 20 and McKinley.

I'm sure they were encouraged. The conversation probably went like this:

Developer: Hey, Lowes, do you want to use the site that Wal-Mart will soon be vacating? Remember, we did it for you at Transit and Maple? We knocked down the old K-Mart and built you a brand new building?

    Lowes: No

    Developer: OK

I can't believe the town board sent this to the planning board. I guess they want to remove all the green space in the town before they fill the vacant commercial property. I wonder who the developer is and how much they donated to the PAC's of the town board members. I wouldn't be surprised if Cathy Rybscinski's son Brad is at the front of the effort with the Builders Union.

The old Wal-Mart location (Southwestern & McKinley) is less than 4 miles away from their Orchard Park store. The Sowles road location would be another 2.5 miles down the road. I'm surprised they'd want to build a second store even that close, but I'm sure they wouldn't build two stores within 5 miles of each other.

The new Wal-Mart is taking the pace of an old, dilapidated plaza - it's a good thing. If they went elsewhere, people would be up in arms, saying "Why don't they go to that dilapidated plaza?". Benderson is developing it, stealing the tenant from the plaza which they sold to DDR 2+ years ago. All's fair in love and war.

I'm not sure who's developing the new Lowe's. Is it Benderson?

Near my house- there is an EXPO, two Home Depots and a Lowes within a five mile radius and Lowes is looking for another location. AND- a Lowes and Home Depot are opening in the next City over, about five miles away.

Starbucks- there is at least six within two miles of my house, plus an independent, and two Its A Grind outlets.

    This isn't a good thing.

Minor detail! See below. Also, the population density is higher here- some homes on 4000 sq.ft. lots.

If anyone is interested- I live in Rocklin, CA. All the home improvement stores that I mentioned are in Roseville, CA. The new home improvement stores are going into Lincoln, CA.

You seem to have an infatuation of some sort with me, making up lies.

I suppose I should be flattered.

So, the two Lowes stores some 6-7 miles apart might not be a big deal. But at least in this area, I'm guessing that extra 2.5 miles will make a difference. From my perspective from living in the area, the McKinley/Southwestern area and the Southwestern/Camp Rd. area are two different neighborhoods. The store near Sowles would draw from the residential areas west and south of it, while the current Lowes store draws from Orchard Park, NE Hamburg, Blasdell, and West Seneca.

sounds like a very low price to buy votes you ever think it was just a token donation given to every town they have customers in
