My HTPC will always have to remain Windows 7, can never use 10 with it.

Hipcat have a guess as to why I cannot / will not upgrade my HTPC to Windows 10?
I will when you learn how to spell my name

Correct, I use Silicon Dust's Home Run Prime on my network. Windows media Center is the only software in the world that decrypts Time Warner's encryption.

I think MS screwed up dumping Media Center. I liked it a lot just on my PC. I NEVER use Media Player

Silicon Dust is trying to create its own software to act as a dvr and decrypt channels, but it is very expensive to get the permission to do so from cable labs.

I still us Media Center everyday, it works decent still for software that has not been updated like forever. and then abandoned - have no choice but to use it now. I pay only $4 a month for a cable card with tuning adapter. Way better than renting a dvr from Time Warner.

    Windows 10 Start menu desktop

When I first upgraded to Windows 10 my start menu looked similar to this -

Then, a couple months ago, it changed to this -

I'm more comfortable with the earlier version but don't know how to return to it. Any suggestions?

You got updated to windows 10.1, I'd assume. Do you really use the start menu so often, it needs to be changed back? Although, mine doesn't look like that. I don't have those icons you have on the left side

If I knew, I'd change it. The earliest restore point is 7/21. I restored to that point but this issue happened earlier. I wonder if I switch back to Win 7 and then switch to Win 10 if it will change?

I think that may be in your Cortana settings. If I click on Cortana, that's when I See the Home Icon, etc., But the other pics I posted were from clicking on the Windows button

Now that you mention the Windows start button. That isn't working from the keyboard or task bar. So maybe that's my issue. I've searched and tried resolutions for Windows start button not working. So far no resolution has worked but there are many out there.
