Walking through the dusty shell of a building that soon will become the world headquarters of New Era Cap Co., Mayor Byron W. Brown said Wednesday that big things are happening on Buffalo's development front.
Moments earlier, he sauntered past the Statler Towers. A British developer has purchased the downtown structure and plans to turn it into a residential, hotel and office complex.
Last week, five out-of-town developers visited Buffalo to inspect sites for possible future projects, Brown told reporters.
"Something unique is happening in Buffalo," Brown said. "We want to keep that momentum going."
He also rattled off updated figures that document a burst of development activity. About $510 million in private-sector projects has been announced in the past 18 months, according to the city office of Economic Development, Permits and Inspections. More than half are already under construction or in the final design phases.

People who wonder if the glass is half empty or full miss the point. The glass is refillable.
The ones done over the past 18 months are all small, private developments.
The best thing the City of Buffalo government could do is to stay as far from them as possilble.
Truth springs from argument among friends.
