Good. The public schools NEED competition. I just hope these charter schools know how to reach out to the students who really need them....
The Western New York Charter School Coalition appointed its first executive board in voting Thursday evening.
The coalition represents 17 area charter schools and has been meeting for roughly two years but filed incorporation papers as a nonprofit in January.
El-Behairy said the group will "allow charter schools to speak with one voice."

I really like the whole charter school concept. What you said, total, about competition is exactly what the public schools need. I would like to see things go one step further and have a voucher program that would enable all students to choose schools based on excellence.
The path is clear
Though no eyes can see
The course laid down long before.
And so with gods and men
The sheep remain inside their pen,
Though many times they've seen the way to leave.
I don't know if you are somehow being sarcastic, but taking your comment at face value: I hope not. They need time to get up and running.Originally Posted by steven
In fact, I really wish charter schools could branch out more into the suburbs. Those schools say they can meet the needs of all kids, but that isn't true. And it isn't the fault of public schools, especially these days, overwhelmed as public schools are with all the new standards. Everything is teaching to the test. Is that learning? I don't know. It makes the best teachers crazy.....
why did that sound sarcastic?Originally Posted by atotaltotalfan2001
This is what made me think of that:
