So then how could they do a brain surgery if the country doesn't exist.

My point exactly, i have NO idea what DMF brought them up in this comparison of socialized medical nations.

It's my experience that people who are happy with their health care have never relied on it for any major health related event in their lives.

This is true, but their are people who did have major health related events and were happy with the insurance. since there so many types of care out you never know what to expect if something does happens.

And it's those people who are being forced by the State to over pay their premiums by 3 to 4 times what they should be so the unhealthy and lazy can get good care.

I'm sorry but it's wrong for this state and others to force a 25 year old to pay the same costs as a 60 year old! Another failed liberal policy of "equality" for a few on the backs of the majority!

    Not so!
I perfed my bowel, woke up needing appliances. My out of pocket expenses were NOTHING for the ER or hospital stay. And the usual $10 copay for my monthly supplies.

insurance companies should have a bare minimum policy that is for major things like surgery

I don't need prescription coverage or routine checkup coverage but I have to pay for it because even the stripped down plan at work includes it

    those should be optional add-ons

And many WANT to, but Albany and other states won't let them.

in some ways, thats a good thing. With prescriptions, you get hurt, get sick, end up needing meds, those pills can rack up REALLY fast

    Am I happy? NO!

A person shouldnt be forced into bankruptcy over a broken arm or leg. 6 xrays for one bone? Come on! If Vitals are $526, XRays are what? $5,000? After all, we gotta pay the XRay machine off 3x over....

And, not only that, Medical bills in general are VASTLY over inflated.

Like I was involved in an atuo accident a few years back where I injured my leg (no we didnt sue even though he almost ran me over) Anyways, the specialist charged something like $600 for the visit, to drain my knee and some other crap, and the insurance company only paid them like half that amount.... I remember this cause dad couldnt believe the cost mark up... Insurance companies are in heritely cheap... if these 'doctors' are veiwing the uninsured as cash cows, where the floodgates are open to financially rape the uninsured public. And, THAT is a pretty damn 'free market' and look at the financial rapeage that is going on. We have a 10 trillion dollar piece of legislation going thruogh that is trying to regulate that 'free market'

The healthcare system in this country sucks. Period. I'm lucky, I have a job that pays my healthcare. But, if I ever move somewhere else, that will change.

However, it pisses me off that people like my girlfriend, who just got her first job in her professional career works for a company that does not offer any health insurance. She was online looking at premiums today, and it's ridiculous. 200-300 bucks a month for a 24 year old. Come on.

Now, it might sound like I'm about to pitch socialized medicine. Hell no. I can't think of one social program the government does efficiently. Not one. If we had socialized medicine, we would all be bankrupt.

We have a good healthcare system in this country partly because it is privatized. Competition is good. However, it also got greedy. If the government wants to do something, they can regulate the greed. I don't think it's right for companies to make billions while others are shut out because they don't make a lot.
Healthcare should be affordable for everyone. My GF shouldn't have to choose between car insurance and health insurance. But, that's exactly what she was doing tonight. And it pissed me off.

My mother said something awhile back about how Health Insurance Companies used to be not-for-profit, and once they went for profit, that's when costs skyrocketed to the out of control levels they are now.

If that is true, then, we should get these companies back to a non-profit. Or make them like a regulated public utility. Something, but government does not need to be handing out healthcare.

Reducing the costs will make it affordable and accessible to everyone. Reforming Medicaire/Medicaid will make it accessible to the rest.

$400 a month for a single person is CHEAP!

For me to get health insurance, I am looking at between 700-1200 per month. Plus, they wont cover my 'pre existing condition' for 12-18 months.
