    Help Save My Home

The guy who needs help is a good man.

He along with the group of people have raise 1000's of pounds of food for some of the local food banks in WNY not counting loads of help at various charity events. He just never charged enough compared to the amount of time that was being invested at some of the events. He has fallen pretty far behind on his property taxes and now needs to pay up.

Thank You for your support over the years. It pains me to have to do this fundraiser but I am out of options. Since 2008 I have dedicated my life to doing charity work round the clock 365 days a year for Western New York. Whenever a charity comes calling we jump into action, all we need to know is when and where and we show up to assist in any way we can.

We don't always dress as Zombies, we are human too. Humans make mistakes and I for example am one of them. I put blinders on and ignored some things I should not have; now I am faced with losing my home in less than 2 weeks from now.

Back in 1990 I started doing Home Haunting during Halloween Season, that quickly grew from a from yard display with maybe 40 guests trick-or-treating to having a Semi-Professional FREE Haunted House for Charity in 2011 which catered to inner-city families and those on a budget. The last few years of operation we averaged about 5,000 guests a season.

Then we held the first Buffalo Zombie Walk, and from there we took over WNY by storm! Now you can see us all over the state assisting charity foundations and charity based events. We volunteer our time and very rarely ever get paid or compensate for our costs.

Some of our highlights are Zombie Night with the Buffalo Bisons, The Buffalo / Niagara Zombie Walk, Buffalo Valentines Vampires Masquerade Ball, we are Sponsors for UNYTS and host our own Blood Drives every 8 weeks which have saved well over 1,000 lives right in WNY, and who can forget our Operation "One-Ton" where we pledge to raise at least One Ton of food for the Food Bank of WNY each year. We are also special guests at most of the major events in WNY & sometimes in Ontario Canada.

We have our share of accolades, news coverage in print & TV, we have been honored by the Food Bank, Special Olympics, Buffalo Awards Program, and just this year for the Artvoice Best of Buffalo Awards I won for Best Individual Activist to my surprise and we were nominated in 3 other categories as well.

All this is why this pains me to have this fundraiser, you would think somebody who started with 5 volunteers and now has over 200, and accomplished tons more than what has been mentioned here, that I would not be in the position I am in. But I am...

It was once said that I do without so others may have, so true. But if I don't do something quick then I will be joining those who I am determined to help and will be right alongside them in the same situation they face daily.

Please, if there is any way you could help, please do. If all my facebook friends kicked in $2.00 each we can save my home. If I lose the home then I lose most of the things that make us what we are. We have so much stuff we need for events and I will not have any place to store our props as I do here, which will result in Terror Technologies having to close shop. I would love to continue to do this the rest of my life, with your donation I just may be able to see that dream come true.

Full closure, truth be told. I am 3 years back on my taxes, over $15,000 but I can save the house by coming up with $6000 by 11/25/14. This also means I can't do this charity work full-time and will have to get a job; I will also have to take on a couple roommates so I can catch up on the remainder of the taxes I owe.

Never in a million years would have thought it would be me asking for assistance, but here I am.

Please help me if you can, if you have been a supporter of our mission to make a difference, now is the time I need you most...

I am asking all of my facebook friends, our Twitter followers, if you can spare a couple dollars please make a donation. If you can afford more then please don't hold back.

Thank You for taking the time to read this,

What is his plan for the 2014 school tax (Oct 1) and the 2015 town tax (Feb 1)? Paying off one year is only going to buy him 12 months of time before the problem arises again, or is this going to be an annual campaign? And I wasn't able to find any information on the charity at the AG's registered charities site or even a DBA at the Erie County Clerk's office.

"This also means I can't do this charity work full-time and will have to get a job"

Well maybe he should go and do that. The saying "charity begins at home" seems to apply here. Good for him for being charitable, but he should have done some with the time and money he had left over after taking care of his own clothing, food, and shelter.

Hopefully I'm wrong but he's striking me as someone more concerned with positive press and having his name out there for all these charity events than taking care of the necessities.

    $6000 by 11/25/14.

I for one hope he/they make it - its not just one person he helps many and entertains many more. But of course people like Nogods and Snarky wouldn't understand doing something good for others - no money in it for them.

It will be nice if it happens. Afterwards he can regroup so that this situation doesn't happen again.

He's an asset to the community.

I don't think he has a mortgage - I think he inherited the house in 2008. I think he just failed to pay the real estate taxes. If he had a mortgage, the bank would have stepped in and paid the taxes to protect their interest, then started a mortgage foreclosure proceeding, which in today's world would drag on for years. So he probably has 80k of equity in the house.

    What is a better situation?

To own a house and have home expenses/taxes or to rent? I don't think his taxes are $6000 a year.

His county, town, and school tax was about 4,300 for 2013, and he has accrued 1,700 of late fees and penalties (2013 is the year the county wants him to pay to starve off the pending tax foreclosure).

That works out to less than $360/mo on the original amount owed. About one weeks pay at minimum wage. He wouldn't find a comparable place to rent for that amount.

His total arrears is over $15,000. He should get a job and take out a home equity loan since he doesn't have a mortgage.

Does anyone know if they have people who council over matters like this? If he's $15,000 behind without a good financial outlook maybe it's time to wrap it up. Sell the home, payoff what is owed tax wise and move on.

This is one of those odd situations where he would be better off owing a bank 80,000 on his home than owing real property taxes. first, the bank would have paid the real property taxes to protect its interest, and then the bank foreclosure process would have included a financial counseling process to try to work out the problem short of foreclosure.

If he can't raise the 6k he still has several possible ways of avoiding the foreclosure, but all of them will require that he get his financial affairs stabilized. Perhaps he needs to charge a fee for his services so that he can continue to provide those services full time to raise funds for the charities. Otherwise he needs to do his charitable work after his money making work.

Lots of people volunteer for the Red Cross and make donations to the Red Cross. The CEO of the American Red Cross gets paid 500k+, so he should be able to draw a salary of 400 a month to pay housing expenses.
