    Casino---Do Ya?

How many of you actually go to the Casino (and I mean any casino)?

I was up in the Falls the other day as a buddy took me to lunch. I found it to be a "Chucky Cheese" for adults (?). The noise and the lights were bothersome to me and I couldn't see why anyone would go there.

Keep in mind, I am not against betting as I enjoy the Ft. Erie Racetrack.

I've been to the Seneca casino twice .... once when they first opened, and once last month. Both times for lunch.

I enjoy the Fort Erie Racetrack too. I prefer it over the Seneca Casino. In fact, I'm becoming a regular customer there

No Nicholas, I don't go to gamble .. just in case you're curious

I went to the Seneca Casino soon after it opened, just to see it. I once visited the casino at Monte Carlo. There was an entrance fee, in return for which I received two slot machine tokens. I gave them to a companion so that I could include myself in what I imagine is the relatively small number of people who have ever entered that casino and not played anything.

Oh, yes; I did go into the Canadian casino in the Falls--to have a beer with my brother-in-law. He considered himself a winner because he paid with American money and got a larger amount back in Canadian currency. Neither one of us placed any kind of a wager.

Casinos are fine for those who like to entertain themselves by throwing money away. They are not high on my list of favorite places to spend either my money or my time.

I went to the Seneca Niagara Casino once. My brothers had the big idea to take my mom there for her BD, give her some spending money and then hit the buffet. I did not gamble, (it is really not my thing) and once mom (who is not much of a gambler) saw how fast my brother went through $20, she decided she would rather not blow the money they gave her on gambling. I am not a gambler, but what people do with their money is their own business. if they want to gamble it away at a casino, be my guest.

"In the casino, the cardinal rule is to keep them playing and to keep them coming back. The longer they play, the more they lose, and in the end, we get it all". ~ Robert De Niro as Ace Rothstein in "Casino"
I've never been to any casino. I may one day go to one to laugh at the dorks giving away their hard earned, but you'll never see me laying down a bet.

I'm sure Jesus would approve. But what would Judas say?

I've never been to any casino, either, since I'm not much of a gambler. I occaisionally play the lottery or mega millions or whatever. When I lived in Albany, I used to go up to Saratoga Race Course a couple of times a summer, but that was more to watch the horses and their celebrity owners than to gamble.

If you like horse racing, you do need to go to Saratoga at least once. It's one of the great racetracks in America (goes back to 1860s) and has all the ambiance and tradition that makes horse racing such a spectacle. Almost every day there's one or more stakes races, and, weather permitting, there's usually a couple of turf races, too. About once or twice a week, they also have steeplechases (the races where the horses take jumps while racing)! On Tuesdays (traditionally Saratoga's "dark" day), there are polo matches, and any day of the week during August you may spot all kinds of celebs in downtown Saratoga Springs!

If you look at it that way, then you could walk into a restaurant and laugh at the people for spending so much on their meals, when they could make it at home for a fraction of the price. Or, you could laugh at everyone who spends $3.50 for a beer in any given bar.

Its a form of entertainment, that's all. I never go expecting to win. I'm thrilled if I come home with the same amount of money in my pocket as when I left the house.

I go about three times a year. The rest of my money I save for Vegas!

When you go into a restaurant you don't hand someone a fist full of money and say, "well, I hope we get fed...keep your fingers crossed honey, daddy needs a Waldorf salad".

Going to a casino for fun, setting a cap on how much you can afford to lose, is fine for those who enjoy it. Spending your grocery, rent, or child-support money on the slots is NOT a good thing. Some can handle it; some can't.

Comparing the casino experience to going out for a meal at the eatery of one's choice is just a poor comparison. As NoCtUrNaL says, you don't go there hoping you get fed; you know you're going to get what you pay for. They don't just take your money and withhold your food. Spending money at a casino will leave you hungry more often than not--unless you're just going for the buffet.

Spending a hundred bucks, or so, for a few hours of entertainment is not all that different from spending the night at the theater. You come home entertained, but with nothing material to show for it. So, what's the big deal?

I have a feeling several people here spend a hundred dollars drinking every weekend. Once you wake up in the morning, you've got nothing to show for that either, besides a headache.

I go to Fort Erie Racetrack cause it's the only place I know where I can have a drink and smoke at the same time.

I'm not much into gambling, but I'm looking forward to the races to start again.

    (please, no lectures on smoking)

"Nothing material to show for it" may be the operative phrase here. Spend a hundred or so bucks at the casino, and you have nothing--material or otherwise--to show for it. Spend the time and money at the theater, and the non-material benefits may very well be, as the VISA adds would put it, "priceless," while the casino experience is pretty much "worthless."

For someone to spend 100 bucks gambling they get just as much out of that spending as someone who go to the theatre.

I'm not a nig Philharmonic fan, not that they arent great, I'm just not into it. I like to play blackjack once and a while. I would get more out of dropping 100 bucks on blackjack than dropping 100 bucks on the philharmonic.

So the non-material benifits as you call them are really in the eyes of the spender are they not?
