    Gotta love Buffalo

There is a story in the Buffalo News today, UB wants to move their entire medical school (schools of medicine, public health, nursing, dental medicine and pharmacy) downtown next to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Corridor.

While this is good news, it is not going to come without a challenge. The site currently is used for the McCarley Gardens apartments. Which is a taxpayer subsidized housing development on land owned by St. John Baptist Church.

The goal is to relocate the 150 units from this location to the fruitbelt in BRAND NEW TOWNHOMES. Which after built, will most likely be subsidized as well.

Of course some of the residents in this subsidized development do not want to leave. Which of course is their right...I guess. But if they block this deal, I think the city should remove the subsidy from this housing project and let St. John Baptist Church cover the difference.

True leadership, which is not found in Buffalo, would do everything in their power to relocate these residents because putting this campus downtown would be HUGE for the city and the tax base.

Of course, the craziness does not end there. When asked, Rev. Michael Chapman claimed the price tag for the move would be......

    $60,000,000.00

Just how freaking crazy is this? This works out to $400,000.00 per unit.

I guess the collection tray is not the only way to line the coffers of some churches in the city. What a freaking shame.

Byron belongs to that church and his bud is Rev. Chapman. St. John's will make out like winning the lottery.

St. John's had started this idea years ago under Masiello, with then Rev. Bennett-Smith. They've been trying to unload this property so they can make some $$$$$ (cha-ching).

BTW, there is a ton of property around the "campus" that is more suitable and cost effective.

Lefty, you've got to look at the playas, Kaleida has numerous Higgins people along with the Brownies, this is to be a big pay-off.

Right to feel that way. Not right to stay.
