Erie County ends first half of year with $15.2 million surplus

Erie County ended the first half of 2009 with a budget surplus of $15.2 million, according to a new report.

The surplus is almost $12 million higher than reported in May.

In the report, released Friday, county officials attribute the extra cash to strong sales tax numbers, personnel savings and "efficiency efforts" by county departments.
