Erie County ends first half of year with $15.2 million surplus

Erie County ended the first half of 2009 with a budget surplus of $15.2 million, according to a new report.

The surplus is almost $12 million higher than reported in May.

In the report, released Friday, county officials attribute the extra cash to strong sales tax numbers, personnel savings and "efficiency efforts" by county departments.

I believed he didn't raise taxes. He had to deal with mandates placed on our community by ALbany plus he had to work with the legislature.

If collins hands weren't tied by arcane laws to protect the government workers from the harsh economic realities of the real world a lot more would be cut. It's on it's way though. Budget hole is already at 2 billion at the state level. People will get to the point of being sick and tired of thier pockets being picked.

Then the people will whine that they are not getting their fair share of services. Then others will tell them they have nothing to whine about and to tough it out. If people truly cared about each other, there would be world peace. But people just care about #1, nothing wrong with it but it doesn't make the world a better place nor worse place. BTW I am still waiting from Dougles to start praising Byron, you too Res., since the city saw a surplus.

HMMM..Stimulus money and a control board? Nah, that couldn't have anything to do with it. Otherwise I would love to hear Douglas praising Byron Brown for the surpluses he has gotten the city of Buffalo the past few years. Them apples mighty tasty.
