Res, I agree.... More Muscle Car color. You need to stand out more then the standard color. They could probably do metalic with any color. That would be outstanding! It is really shaping up nicely! Sweet! That exhaust is really unique.

They want me to do a metallic silver with black top/interior... but when I look at it, it just looks like grey and there are a lot of silver cars on the road...

Black looks cool but the guys working on the car say it's high maintenance...

As I said back in November: "2084 looks great (red) that with a black interior would be nice."

I like black, but it shows everything. Gold/Bronze metalic is good, Red metalic? Maybe some shades of red is ok. Blue is good too. I know... you would have to change the color of the interior, but you could do a neutral color interior.

The interior will be all new so that won't be an issue. The guy who had the car originally really hosed it.

I get the discounted labor rate if they work on it between the better paying jobs. Finding some parts reasonably priced was way harder than I thought it would be.

Plus my property taxes did go up quite a but since we purchased the house. Gotta live within your means. Now it would be nice if local governments/state government would do the same.

Here is the company that did it.

Antique Auto, Marine, & Motorcycle Specialists

    http://www.custom-chrome.com/

    Our Exclusive Process

Cambridge Custom Chrome is not just another plating shop. Restoration and plating of POT METAL is our specialty.

Our EXCLUSIVE PROCESS for restoring pot metal by filling and hand sanding the pits, as well as the actual plating, is the finest in hand craftsmenship.

    THE PROCESS:

    1. Stripping away of all old plating.
    2. Sandblasting.
    3. Our exclusive method for filling the pits while maintaining the true shape and contour of the piece includes a series of fillings and hand sandings until pits are eliminated.
    4. Plating in COPPER for 4 to 6 hours.
    5. Another series of HAND sandings and polishings to a lustrous mirror finish.
    6. A series of cleanings.
    7. Heavy plating of very bright NICKEL.
    8. CHROME plating.
    9. Final polishing
This entire process, for all pieces - INCLUDING BUMPERS - is performed at Cambridge Custom Chrome's state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly shop.

How does this process make Cambridge Custom Chrome different than a regular plating shop?

Most plating shops try to grind out the pits, resulting in flat spots and the loss of the piece's true contour. Our process fills the pits thus retaining the origional shape and beauty, as well as preventing new pits. Our work is guaranteed not to crack or peel.

They have a drop off point at 1051 Clinton Street. This way you don't have to worry about shipping it to Canada. Aero Restorationin Lancaster is picky with the work they do. It came out great.

    silver is for old men

why go with an old mans silver. if you want the old muscle car look why not go for corn flake sized metal flakes under a candied royal blue or candy apple red. today yellows and green are hot but not in the late 60's early 70's muscle era. black is always good and since this is your baby I suppose washing the dust off won't be a problem. so dont let up keep bother you

Post 225 is the original color of the car out of the factory.

I'm still stuck on the color or just put it back to what it was.

Black is so cooling looking but everyone says it shows every speck and will show rub marks if you whip it down with a dry towel etc...

    !

First, I would kick the guys A$$ for the mess he made of my car. Then I would sue his A$$. Then I would utterly destroy his business to the point he's out of business.

An all original 1970 GTO mint condition goes for $ 40, 000 + again depends on the car's condition having all original part and such. It is a classic car, I know, I had one. On the low end with some minor part changes it may bring in $20,000 + again based on the car's condition classification.

Years ago I had a collision shop ask to restore a car for me. They worked on another car previously and it turned out nice. Took them a while but the job was great.

The car had a drunk driver hit the back end so we decided to have it restored for a fun summer car. The business owner would stop down occasionally and pick up a check as work proceeded. We were happy with the first car they did so I never stopped to monitor their progress. I sent other clients to his company and they all seemed satisfied with what they got.

Well one day while sitting in my office the collision shop's flatbed rolls in and drops the car off in the middle of my parking lot. The picture is EXACTLY what they dropped off a few years later and after collecting about $12,000 bucks. He destroyed my car. I should of sued him but the few lawyers I talked to all wanted a few $1000 bucks up front to even start something up. I could of went to small claims to get what ever they allowed but it seem not worth the hassle.

I'm thinking of making a webpage with about 20 photo's of exactly what he dropped off, the acutal checks that were paid to his company and his name up in bright red letters. I will not slander the man. All I'll do is show everyone what he charged about $12,000 to do.

It was an all original 70 gto convertible.

    What would you guys do?
