Would the old town engineer's new downward appointment be a matter for the board to vote on?
Wow. Talk about a test case for the new supervisor.
Tony,
Amherst now has a new town engineer.
The old town engineer might be appointed to take Jeff Borroughs vacant seat at the upper level pay scale of $69,500. The old engineer needs one more year to have 20 years in to collect a higher pension.

Are they still playing this type of crap?

The word is that Mohan wanted the old Town Engineer to remain on the staff to work on special projects. Mohan addressed this at the 2/27/06 TB meeting & in the news. I really don't see a problem here, except for the difference in pay. I wonder if the old Town Engineer is aware of the difference in pay. The man was not fired, he is more than qualified to fill the position & both Mohan & Burroughs want him to remain. Who ever wrote that E-mail sounds like they have an ax to grind. Trick-Holy maybe?
From what I read in The Bee, the board talked about keeping Burroughs on as a consultant to bigger projects. But that doesn't mean he will remain on the payroll, accruing benefits, does it?
You do raise an interesting point, though. From what I've read, Burroughs was replaced, but nowhere does it say he was booted out.
Burroughs is the new Town Engineer and P. Bowers is the former TE.
What is the status of the Assistant Town Engineer?
Of course he will remain on the payroll. You wouldn't expect him to work for free would you?? Cut the guy some slack.Originally Posted by atotaltotalfan2001

Dr. Mohan and Bowers were at the treatment plant Thursday pm. Bowers mentioned hoping to work on special assignments for 2 months - someone said he needs 2 more months service for 20 years.
As for Jim Johnson, Dr. Mohan said he will not be allowed to have anything to do with the plant - that was greeted with a loud round of applause from the staff. That was something Jeff Burroughs insisted on. Sounds like if JJ does keep his job, his wings will be severely clipped.
Oh, sorry about that.Originally Posted by forreason
Of course I don't expect him to work for free. I didn't mean to imply that. But consultants aren't usually town employees; they are contract employees. Many businesses count on consultants as a cheaper alternative to hiring regular employees because they don't have to provide benefits to consultants. That's why I asked what his status would be.Originally Posted by Gandalf
White Owl,
If this is true about "JJ", that is a lot of salary to not be at a management level of responsibility. I think it is best to keep Mr. Bowers on for a couple of months if not for just transition purposes. Hopefully the TB will understand that when some employees leave, there is a need for an overlap for this purpose.
forreason, I agree. It is alot of money for the taxpayers to shell out so Jim Johnson can do busy work. If you think about it, what has JJ done over the last 5 plus years, other than hold hands with the 2 legal eagles the town hired for the Canna hearing(s). Add JJ salary to the cost of the hearing(s).
IMO, JJ should be fired, period.
Paul Bowers was a class act when he addressed the Bored Meeting. JJ should be put out to pasture for all the discontent he has caused. That guy is evil.
