Most in state say Paterson shouldn't run again

ALBANY — New York voters are so disillusioned by the job Gov. David A. Paterson is doing that more than half say he should go ahead and announce now that he will not run for election next year, a new poll has found.
The poll by Quinnipiac University found 53 percent of registered voters — 56 percent of upstaters — believe he should not run for election in 2010, while only 39 percent believe there is time to improve his reputation in time to run next year. Sixty-three percent say he doesn't deserve to be re-elected.
A stunning 60 percent of voters disapprove of the job he is doing in office, the lowest approval rating ever for a New York governor. Only 28 percent rate his job positively.
Attorney General Andrew Cuomo would destroy Paterson in a hypothetical Democratic primary matchup by 61 percent to 18 percent. In February, Cuomo beat Paterson 55-23 percent in a previous Quinnipiac poll. Cuomo, who so far has insisted that his only plans for 2010 are to seek re-election to his current job, has a 75 to 14 percent job approval rating.

I don't know if you can actually lay blame on him. He's not the one that signed off on contracts clearly not in favor of the non-government/business taxpayer.

Paterson Poll Numbers Continue to Slide

Paterson Poll Numbers Continue to Slide

ALBANY _ A Quinnipiac poll today shows Gov. David Paterson with only a 28% approval rating, the lowest level for a New York governor in the poll's 10-year history.
But Paterson Monday morning talked about a turnaround, saying he will tour the state to tout the successes of the recently approved state budget. He is on Long Island today and hitting other parts of the state later this week.
Paterson claims the state has made record cuts to deal with the fiscal crisis and blamed part of his popularity problem on what he estimated was $10 million spent by special-interest groups against his budget cuts. "If more people listen to do it and here my side of the story, maybe there will be a return," he said of his approval rating today on WWRL-AM (1600) in New York City.

He started in the senate in 1985. He supported all those contracts you mentioned. The reason for his anemic numbers are due primarily to his inability to lead or comprehend his position (governor) within government.

I wouldn't vote for him and I do blame Paterson for the recent budget. A man has to take a stand somewhere

But is there anything he can physically do about the budget?

Can he demand cuts, concessions or basic common sense?

Plus our own elected officials can't take a stand so why should we expect the Gov to.

The blame for over taxed NYS is shared equally among both parties. They are the ones who serve corporate interests. They are the reason NYS is in the mess we're in. Remove both parties and all the State authorities. They are all one in the same, a burden on the remaining New Yorkers who still live here.

The other elected officials are only followed closely by their local constituents. If a representative from Utica made a stand, who would notice? If a lone WNY official screamed for change, would anyone in NYC even listen? Paterson on the other hand is the state Governor. Even if he's technically powerless to change the vote, he more than anyone can sway public opinion statewide and spotlight the issues that need to be changed. Had he done this, he would have huge voter support, and he could shame the rest of the politicians into actually doing what's right.

Instead, he seems to support the status quo...

    And His Spending Continues

Gov. Paterson announced yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon the appointment of Valerie Grey as his first deputy secretary at a salary of $173,000.

“At a time when Gov. Paterson is proposing to eliminate the jobs of 9,000 front line state employees,

This is after he put new rugs, etc. in the Governor's Mansion at an enormous amount...tank you taxpayer...

Red did the restrooms in marble in the Capital... thank you taxpayers...

Boy.. I guess we really are in a financial crisis! at least for the front line workers, we are.

I completely agree with you smiley. But seeing I pay the bill along with countless others i'm not going to say lets give raises to one group because of his actions.

I think they all need a pay cut, from the TOP all the way to the bottom!

    From CNN:
Fourth, why is it more profitable to work in the government than to work in the private sector? According to one study, public employees earned benefits worth an average of $13.38 an hour in December 2008, while private-sector workers got benefits worth $7.98 an hour. Overall, total compensation for state and local workers was $39.25 an hour, $11.90 more than in the private sector.

Democrats will argue this calls for more mandates from the government to increase the minimum wage. What it actually means is that government workers, who are paid by the taxpayers, are vastly overpaid, and with their benefits and their pensions, are risking the financial health of this country

And these public service folks just can't seem to understand why we in the private sector are pissed at them......they work for us and have made themselves too expensive. Time for a change.

The three men in a room decide on a budget. That budget contains all kinds of fees and tax increases to balance the budget. They say they feel our pain and are going to cut spending by laying off a very small percentage of state employees. All their cronies go along with the budget and vote for it.

Then, they redecorate the governor's mansion, give Baby Joe a cushy job with a big staff, hire a second in charge for a ton of bucks, and God only knows where else they are wasting money.

I really don't mind an increase in taxes and fees if the state is in real trouble.

But, the way they waste money.....I have a real problem with that!!!!!

It's not their money.......it's our money!!!!!!!

We really need to vote these clowns out of office!!!!!!!!!
Government is not the solution to our problem. Government is the problem. Ronald Reagan
