    Basic Star Forms

Can anyone tell me when Lackawanna will mail out the new forms for the "Basic Star" exemption?
Also where can I find online, what my "Tax map number or section/block lot" is.
I sent my tax bill when I paid my taxes and have not got my receipt back.

Just think of all the people that are probably being paid to handle the star exemption paper work.

WNY was scheduled to be mailed on the 26-30 of August http://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/property/star13/mailing.pdf, you should get it this week, No need for the letter though, it is easy to loo up your in number online right now and apply. I have it finished already.

Go here: http://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/property/star13/default.htm as Joe D pointed out.

If property taxes are paid to the town/county, why is the state involved?

This of all the wasted man power with the star program but I suppose it is a "job creator". I wonder why they just couldn't refund each taxing entity one amount to lower each general budget.

The Star Program and the Enhanced Star are New York State Programs. I think the State reimburses the communities for all monies lost through the Star programs.

I'm pretty sure that STAR is a school tax only program. The ST in STAR stands for "school tax". For the most part the taxes of cities towns & villages are not affected. The state reimburses the school district for the amount of the STAR discount on your school tax bill. Instead of paying it as property tax you pay it as income tax. Because its not specifically enumerated as part of your state income tax bill you pay it without realizing it. It was a way of shielding out of control school spending while pretending to provide tax relief to property tax payers.
