New York gun makers in a squeeze: stay or go?. the Gov. and his SAFE Act endangers their business.

Remington Arms, far and away the biggest employer in this town, has been touring possible new facility sites in the Nashville area.

Yes nothing here but we are getting a new state park on the water front
Eight months after New York enacted one of the nation’s strongest gun control laws, Ilion is a community on edge. Residents and employers say they hear assurances from politicians that Remington, the oldest gun maker in America, will not move. But all they have to do is look to other upstate communities home to once-successful manufacturing companies – from Lackawanna, Buffalo and Rochester to Binghamton and Poughkeepsie – to see that such promises can be fleeting.
Still, as any mayor of any upstate community knows, the terms “upstate” and “manufacturing” are not linked as they once were. Manufacturers have long lamented the costs of doing business upstate, whether dealing with high property taxes, high utility costs or expensive state regulations. The SAFE Act added a new business barrier overnight, say officials and company executives in upstate towns home to gun makers.

the dumbest argument posited by guniots is the "gun free zone" myth. first, the DC facility was not a gun free zone - in fact early reports are that the shooter got his firearms from inside the facility.

Second, criminals commit gun crimes where ever their intended victims are located without regard to whether the location has heavily armed guards or is full of wannabe Wyatt Earps hoping to play video game hero.

Third the shooter had two previous unlawful firearm discharges which would have disqualified him from owning a gun in New York State but apparently not in Texas where every yahoo gets a gun, they just can't carry it in a whole list of places.

Good Job. Well done. We have “educated” them and their “liberal” customers who don’t particularly share our views and affinity for all things that go bang.

The decision is in, and it is not in our favor. Starbucks has said that they do not wish to see “guns as a part of the Starbucks experience.”

agreeded.... Bill clinton with his gun law on mil.bases..lib.

There’s one thing the President could do that would prevent another military base shooting from ever happening again…In the wake of the Navy Yard shootings, Obama said he’d done all he can and called on Congress to pass more gun control laws. But not one proposed new law would have prevented it, especially not banning AR-15s, a rifle apparently used by nobody there except the police. But military base shootings could be halted for good with the stroke of Obama’s pen. All he has to do is rescind Bill Clinton’s 1993 order banning military personnel from carrying sidearms. That turned our bases into “gun-free zones,” or as I call them, sitting duck zones. And why? Is anyone better trained to carry a weapon than the US military? They’re the world’s policemen. Yet when they were under siege at Fort Hood or the Navy Yard, they had to wait helplessly for the police to come save them. Banning US military members from carrying guns is not only deadly, it’s as senseless as banning construction workers from carrying hammers.

Correct he shot and killed 2 gaurds. Gun Free Zones = No guns for little citizens, only for those with 'authority'

Second, criminals commit gun crimes where ever their intended victims are located without regard to whether the location has heavily armed guards or is full of wannabe Wyatt Earps hoping to play video game hero.Really? The Colorado shooting spree, was the only theater with in 20 miles that openly denied fire arms. Newtown, a school, gun free zone...ect

your arguement doesnt hold up when confronted with this idea... What single location has more money, drugs, and other goodies, valuable to a criminal? single centralized location? A police Department... lets see... tell us oh great one, when was the last time a armed person walked into a Police station full of armed cops, to rob it/go on a killing spree...
