Thumbs down Cheektowaga approves casino resolution

In a special session the Cheektowaga town board passed a resolution to approve casino gaming in Cheektowaga without any community input.... Check out the story at:
www.insidecheektowaga.com It is definitely time for a rally to show this administration they work for the people not for their own benefit..........

THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! If they had asked anyone for input, once again, progress would be stalled in the area. You should be counting your blessings right now!

Here is what you don't think about. The road wear will not be fixed. If it is fixed they will tax the residents to pay for the repairs. That's not fair. Look at union and walden, the road is awful from the traffic. If Benderson didn't build all the crap he did the road wear and cost woudn't be a issue. Does Benderson pay for the road wear from all the strip plaza's?

Are you going to tell me the income from the casino is going to cover the wear and tear? I dont think so seeing we don't see these issues being addressed now from all the business revenue supposily we were going to get from the growth in cheektowaga.

I want a casino but i want everything in writing. THATs the issue, not that we should or not have a casino, we have organize idiots making up the contacts without good negociators in our behalf. Just look at how the town board negociates with some of the unionized employees. It's basically give us what we want and we'll vote how you tell us.

All the WHILE we have big brother NY state milking what? 25% from the proceeds of the casino.

The state gets nothing. Period. THey'll end up milking that revenue for thier "use".

That is what is wrong with NY state.

Put me in front of the indians, I'll negociate. It's easy, I know how to say no and from past business experience you get everyhting in writing. Handshakes do not cut it anymore.

Bring that casino in, we just have to cover our butts.

Do you think Benderson doesn't pay taxes for all the property he owns? I am a owner of a few strip plaza's and pay over $75,000 a year in taxes $12,000 of it is for 25 acres of vacant land in Cheektowaga and what does the town do for me. They don't plow, pick up garbage or anything else.

Just think if Benderson didn't buy all those run down buildings and pay TAXES on them cheektowaga would be bankrupt by now!

I hope the Casino is built in cheektowaga and even better if it's built at the Transit Rd site.

    Just my opinion.

I don't think the developers are paying enough for the wear and tear thier businesses are causing. Two people mentioned and i can be totally wrong but on the vacant buildings they get tax discounts for being vacant. Incentives to get them to build this stuff. Full or not. Look at pep boys on union road near tops. Is that building being billed full tax rates? WHen we see an empty tops building in the area, do they pay full taxes? Do brand new walmarts ( the developers) pay full taxes when they are first built?

I would like to see where the money goes seeing if everyone is paying what we are its being stolen, abused, wasted, or mis-managed. OR, we are not calculating the acutal road wear cost/police all this strip/retail is causing.

Could it be we are being boned on the cost of hte road work we are getting? Could it be we are paying top dollar for crappy road building and it wears out long before it should? ? Could it be our superivosors are not monitor police over time abuse? I heard in cheektowaga some officers abuse overtime like it's going out of style. I have one example of a non police employee taking over $30,000 in overtime plus his $58,000 in salary.

If all this business are good for the area then why are taxes slowly going up? Shouldn't the growth offset some of hte rising cost of the area? If it's not then don't bother building seeing i would rather not have the extra traffic and polution etc if it's not making my taxes lower or in check.

At the rate it's going in 20 years when i retire my house taxes are going to be over $10,000 a year. Currently they are about $4000 a year. about $350 a month is too much when we see LOTS of other states giving better services, better road, for LESS. It's gonna be like my entire SSI check will go only for taxes.. Stupid.
And no i'm not going to move, I would rather rid WNY of the people causing the mess in the first place.

Now if our taxes are going up because of employee health/retirement benifits for the town/city then:

As a resident i do not give two craps about health cost for town/wnystate employees. I dont why should i? THey don't seem to care that these cost are causing businesses and families to leave.

They were given a STUPID contract with stupid people making the contracts hoping to gain thier votes. I'm in business i can say that without even smirking.

They should of been given one flat fee towards health insurance period. If the rates go up they pay the difference. NO SMART person would even sign a contract that had OPEN ENDED cost associated with it.

Would you sign a contract guaranting 20 gallons of gas to someone without a dollar amount limit? You might give them $20 a week towards gas but not 20 gallons a week no matter what the cost per gallon was.

Would Tops or wegmans have a all the groceries you need for a week for $99 bucks? I dont' think so either. THey might give someone $99 a week towards thier bill but not all you can eat for one fixed cost. YOu might have someone that wants lobster and caviar for dinner all the time whre as you have some eating kraft dinner all week. You would budget a fixed cost, not a blind cost and hope it doesn't go up.

We allowed the employee unions to bone us on some topics plain and simple.

Think it's fair for a resident on a fix income to pay for thier (town/city) health increases while cutting back on thier own? Nope. Not in my book. When the economy is slow we all take a bite.

I'm still waiting for all elected politicians to grow a set of nuts and all take real pay decreases. They are completely out of line with the average salary in NYS.

All elected politicians that earn over $80,000 a year take a 30 to 40% cut. Who are you fooling thinking they are earning thier salaries? Some do not most.

I sure don't think they are earning their salaries but they would never take a 30-40% pay cut we would be lucky to see 5-10% and we know that will never happen.

Aim your goals high joe so even if you don't reach them you still end up higher than most.

    30% - 40% is do-able.

Look at Tony Mascello.. $127,000 plus beni's + perks.

are you trying to tell me he can't live on $76,000? THat's a 40% decrease. See these politicians that take high salaries are out of touch from the real residents that make $30,000 to $40,000 a year. I'd take his Job for $76,000 and i would be happy.

There are a lot of people who would love to make $76,000 a year to sit behind a desk and do nothing not to mention all the perks that come with the job.

We need to get the government to start working for us not us working for them!!!!

    Serious pay cuts needed.....

As I said back in February, If elected as Town Supervisor I will take a 25% cut in pay, give back the $5,000.00 bonus as chief financial officer and give back the town car. We need to cut back and cut back now. I'm still running in the November election as a write-in candidate. Hope you remember me in November, this will give me the true opportunity to put up or shut up... See you at the polls......

Other than a paycut for yourself, why should we vote for you? I looked at your website and there's lots of whining going on. What experience do you have to make us feel good about voting for you?
