Would you support a hike in the tobbaco and alchohol tax

Would you support a hike in the tobacco and alchohol tax to help offset an expected hike in the 2006 County property tax?

    1. No, I would not.

    2. Yes, raise the tax $2.00 per pack and 2.00 per six pack of beer.

    3. Yes, raise the tax $4.00 per pack.

    4. Yes, raise the tax $5.00 per pack. It would cut down on smoking related illnesses and still raise money.

Yes. Jack 'm up. The simple fact is that smoking cigarettes is just flat out stupid- consciously inhaling incinerating toxins into your lungs. Hint: If you are trying to quit, try switching to rolling tobacco. It doesn't have the added chemicals to keep you addicted. It's way cheaper and filterless cigarettes are biodegradable. I know this isn't a popular quitting method, but it worked for me.

I always thought that taxing tobacco and cigarettes was better than a property tax hike. No, I am NOT A POLITICIAN!!!! I just think that there are some fees that could be raised to pay for services that are either needed or are a luxury. Parks are not a NECESSARY !! item in governing a county. If people want to use them and keep them open, then pay a user fee to keep them open.

I would include Parks in the "Quality of Life" items that a gov't is expected to provide its citizens.
    Parks ARE a necessity.

As for yout "tax everythng in the world that's optional" mentality, where are you gonna stop.

I don't think churches are necessary, yet they don't pay taxes. I say we tax them.

Senior citizens get a break on their taxes. Why should they? Screw 'em, let's give them a surcharge.

    Schools? Don't get me started...

    How about a GAMBLING TAX?

    How about a GAMBLING TAX?

How about a TOLL on all roads leading to the Indian Reservations and Gambling Casinos?

How about removing the tax exemption from all synagogues and jewish community centers? Those guys have more than enough money!

How about a War Tax for all the feminists who are in college or working and didnt serve their country in Iraq or Afghanistan? If their good enough to be CEOs and run for president, then their good enough to serve our country in the front lines and defend its freedoms!

There you go stereotyping again. Why can't you speak your peace without trashing ethnic groups that aren't your own? Go off on your own people for a change.

Actually, this was the reasoning behind the rediculous taxation of tobacco and alcohol in Canada. They learned from our mistake (enforcing Prohibition during the 1920s) that legislating morality doesn't work - the only ones that won then was organized crime. Look now at the "War of Drugs", the taxpayer sure as hell isn't winning there either. So they came up with the solution that if you really want to drink/smoke, you're gonna pay through the nose for the privledge of doing so.

Sorry, we already ARE paying a "user fee". Its called taxes and the cost of running the parks (as well as maintaining roads and brifdges, health care, sheriff's patrol, etc) are to be found in our County Budget.
But seeing as how Joel stole that money and gave it to his backers, and the money is gone, now we have problems.
Lte's fix the problem - hold Joel and his backers accountable for their actions. Send them all to jail for grand treft.
