"Common good" for them is a euphemism for redistribution of wealth from some to others.
Literally, that's not "common" but special.
It's amazing how much good would come from simply using words with precision.
Politicians, of course, mangle the language on purpose and always.
Literally, the common good would be that set of policies that benefit everyone, like, prevention of violent crime.
It's a very, very, very short list and any government that limited itself to those functions would be very small.

Can you clarify "politicians" from your point of view.
Basically, officials who believe that government, beyond keeping the peace, can be a force for good. An obvious falsehood so all they say in support of that thesis is a lie.
"Force for good." A contradiction in terms, an oxymoron.
The question is how can force, violence, (non-defensive), be good?
