On this day in 1959 the United Steelworkers struck all U.S. Steel plants. Dwight D. Eisenhower eventually invoked portions of the Taft Hartley Act to end it.
But uliutmately what the strike did was result in significant amounts of steel being imported to the U.S. for the first time.
The USW essentially destroyed their own U.S. industry and now Pittsburgh is a ghost town.
Of course the union bosses still have their cushy jobs and high salaries.
