    Union’s

I am all for union’s for police, and firemen…hospital, and teachers can go take a flying chit. I remember when teachers were not unionized, and healthcare workers (nurses) it wasn’t that long ago.

Obviously you are baiting, so why? Defend your postion.

Personally i think everyone who says police/fire fighter put their life on the line everyday and needs their ego's stroked is a joke. They knew what they were getting into an knew the dangers of writing tickets all day. And there are a ton of poeple willing to do their job at a lower wage. Also, how many have a degree, i know a few police officers who could barely pass high school, came to school under the influence of a few different drugs but now they are detectives? And a vetran officer is considered experieced and valued and a vetran teacher is considered the opposite. Unions are needed for various industries for various reasons. It would be a waste to explain it to you since you wouldn't listen to reason..
Perosonally, until you are in their shoes you have no clue what you are talking about and myself included. But like you i will just spit out my opinions.

I agree some unions are good. However the Teachers Union is out of control. I think, that when the cash runs out, instead of raising taxes, the state should just issue 'IOU' s like California... this way everyone will feel it. And when the state workers start complaining about how their not getting paid, and that the state needs to raise taxes, I think those people should be FORCED to pay MORE in taxes than others. After all, by and large, Govt work, on average gets paid MORE than those in the private sector, therefore, since they make more money, they can afford to pay more taxes. After all, 10 million people working and paying taxes to a state with a work force of 2 million, and the state is bankrupt? Their solutions is 'raise taxes' So I say, go ahead, raise the taxes, but only upon those that work for the state.

This includes the federal govt, and the military. Maybe THEN we would have REAL change in the constant hand outs and social program BS we have. After all, those of us in the private sector are most often paid much less and therefore cant afford to pay for the Govts excess... so make those (the state/govt employees) pay MORE...

In the simplest terms, a union is necessary only when the employee's skills are not easily marketable, which makes employee position weak to negotiate with employer for better pay or conditions, terms etc. By making the employees a "collective", they become an organization which has leverage ("we can all quit tomorrow", etc.)

If the employee's skills are not marketable (low $ value) elsehere outside an organization (employee's skills are easily replaceable) or are poorly marketable even withIN an organization, the employee is at the whim of the employer. funny though, how many (most?) unionized employees have a belief / attitude that the employer is ALWAYS some kind of malevolent force, intent on heaving oppression on employees. Hint: if you dont like an employer, then just, LEAVE for another employer. Real simple, but take note: MOST, actually, all bonafide employers want to retain good productive emloyees, and will pay them competitively with $, and/bennies etc..SOMETHING to make the employee want to rent their marketable skills (even if its only time) to the employer. Of course, as the marketable skills improve, or more skills added, the employee becomes more valuable to OTHER employers.

point: union is needed only to protect employees whose skills (or lack thereof) are not easily marketable elsewhere., OR, its a vary narrow specialized occupation, examples fire, police, area sof nursing, airline pilots, janitors, etc.

the way its evolved though, govt unions has become a lever to extract $$ from net taxpayers in exchange for votes for politicians. Very very slowly, and very institutionalized, especially in WNY.

so, with the skills not marketable, they hide under the protection of the union, and avoid individual accountability at net taxpayer expense, and the expense of their own "customers".

FMD You are insane... So gov't employees should pay more taxes because we make more. You are insane up untill this country started taking a downhill spiral and private sector jobs started closeing up shop not one person whould want the state job I have. I don't make alot of money but when I took the job I knew what I was getting into I was not going to get rich, but one thing I know is that my job whould always be there it's not the most infact it's the least liked job in the state but I knew that going into it and also you FMD had the same chance to take the same test I did and you my freind had the same oppertunity to take advantage of the fine bennifits that the state offers to it's hard working individuals like a retirement plan, that the private sector slugs like your self whould love to get your hands on. Because you choose not to work for your fine state that is not mine nor anyone else 's that works for the state. And what about all of those fine soles that take from the state every month year after year and do nothing take from them not me. Tax them more for taking and not giving back to the state.
