In the June 19 News, Charles Ballagh, co-owner of TravelingSmoke.com, referring to the New York State enforcement of collecting sales tax on Indian businesses' Internet cigarette sales, said, "The state will wind up giving us (the Senecas) dollars through Social Services, and that's ironic."
It sure is. Why are the Senecas a "sovereign nation" when it comes to paying New York State taxes, but not a sovereign nation when it comes to collecting Social Services? It seems to me that the Senecas are a sovereign nation only when it suits them. Like when it comes to paying sales tax, but not when it comes to collecting Social Service dollars off the backs of U.S. taxpayers.
