    Cost to the Tax payers

I found a interesting website, TheCost.org, the information is from 2005 and run by Kevin Gaughan. I found it interesting that the town of Cheektowaga can run a town at nearly the same cost with more than twice the population of the town of West Seneca. Thanks to our past administration.

The information leaves off the part where the town employees (7 of them) are allowed take home vehicles. Does our rec director really need a take home vehicle? Does he need to be on call 24/7? Does someone need to be signing up for baseball at 4am or getting town ID? That would be the first cutting measure I would make.

    Cheektowaga - (94k) $1,052,946
    West Seneca - (44k) $1,067,606

Folks, the taxes are too high, the keep going up. It's shame our young people are looking elsewhere to buy houses. The current residents can barely afford to live here but we continue to elect the same people with a different mask. Only in this to boost their ego.

We have a chance to make lots of changes. Our town staff is bloated and overpaid, we continue to pour money into ice rink that loses money,

We have a chance to make real change, next November.

I would make the following cutting measures....
-WSPD merges with State Troopers or Erie County
    -Eliminate 2 council member positions
-Eliminate lifetime benefits for past council members (never happen with Meegan on board because her father loves that perk)
-Draw up new school district lines (why do we allow kids from Blasdell, Orchard Park, Cheektowaga, and Drug Rehab home on harlem to attend WSCSD?) The apartments near McKinley Mall should not be in WS.
-Have 1 high school instead of 2 high schools (eliminating nearly half of adminstration)
    -Close the ice rink
-Eliminate take home vehicles for rec director

Our taxes would be a lot lower

Does Meegans father get that benefit because he was a councilman or was it the other position he held in the town?
At least get your facts straight before crying about **** you don't understand. The trend continues.

I agree. Public service unions often refer to parity and try to show how private sector jobs pay more. The reverse should be true. I know of few private sector jobs which retire people with lifetime medical. Also, the pensions of private sector employees are taxed by the state, not public sector. Why? Where is Parity?

    Question

What is the difference between a 14% increase and a 30% increase? Answer: WP's negotiation skills.
WP would not stand for a 14% increase in Health Insurance so he held out for a 30% increase from the health insurance carrier. Town employees should make sure he negotiates their contract they could likely end up with a nice pay raise. Let's see how he can pass the blame for this on to the previous board.

Actually, he sounds more like a distressed taxpayer than a former government worker. Then again, there are those who like the high cost of living in this area, and the yearly increases, and the lack of economic development it brings.

    You forgot
    - shut down the Senior Center
    - eliminate the Harlem Road park
    - sell the soccer fields
    - eliminate the town pool
    - shut down Burchfield

Your comment about combining the schools tells me you haven't been in one for a very very long time and are very overdue for a reality check.

It is a sobering figure. Other towns are way more efficient than West Seneca.

    Especially with those numbers...

4% increase as opposed to a 30% increase.

Where did that fool get his info from Manny? Were you at that meeting of the minds?

I have no idea who the other posters are except psycho, and dtwarren, so no I was not at any meeting of the minds. I think the focus should not be on some part time blogger's mistake, it should be on a full time supervisor's mistake. I certainly can understand one, but not the other.

It wasn't a mistake, it was a blatant lie. 30% is not in 4%'s ballpark.
    There was clearly an agenda.
Mysteriously the poster in question has never addressed the "mistake"...

No there was not clearly an agenda. When premium is not paid in a year, and there is mention of an amount due, it would be easy to confuse premium increase. Like what is the amount due vs the amount that should be due if everything was current, and then what precent increase is that from previous year.
Fisher, you are clearly trying to provide cover for Wally P. SOE is his 'henchman' and you are his 'shotgun'. Are you guys all family members, or just friends of the family?
