Beyond ridiculous.
Are they suing the Kansas City Chiefs too?
I should sue the Boston Celtics. I am 1/4 Irish.
A US district court judge ruled agains native amercians over the Washington Redskins using the name for its team. Are these lawsuit becoming ridiculous, and are they becoming the bully that they are supposively fighting?

No. They are not. Neither is Redskin, or Black.Originally Posted by raoul duke
Totally foolish lawsuits suing without any basis in racism whatsoever.
Its like they're (lawyers) are thinking:Let's take advantage of the plight of Indians and sue every entity officially using an American Indian-derived name-All for profit-None of these lawsuits are concerned with the dignity and reputation of Native Americans.
Talk about frivolous lawsuits!
Sports teams or any other organizations who have adopted Native American/Indian names use their team's names because of local/state-historical significance perhaps (certain tribes native to a region) or the names just sounded good.
Were most American Indians robbed of their land and dignity by Euro trash seeking refuge from religious prosecution and their descendents?
Hell yes!
Have American Indians been the victims of genocide?
Of course!
Are Native Americans entitled to all the damned casinos and tax-free products they can sell in addition to tons of Federal programs to help Indians in need?
YES!
I'm sure that there are guidelines for what constitutes "racism" and "hate crimes" but common sense alone is screaming that suing a team or any other major organization for using Indian names is disgusting petty greed akin to someone pretending to getting hit by a car and taking a "cash settlement" from the drive to avoid going to court.
I've seen complaints from minorities I never knew existed or could be CALLED "persecuted groups"
For example:
The mentally ill have NAMI who cries "foul" if depictions/language "insults" mental illness pepetuating negative stereotypes and bias toward those with psychiatric disorders.
Its INSANE, I tell ya!!
You'd think the Native Americans their lawyers are representing would be ASHAMED of these lawsuits,
baseless and petty as they are;
Most likely ANY settlements will go to the wealthiest American Indians, ignoring those who truly need it.
Coincidence is the word we use when we can't see the levers and pulleys.

Who said "black" was slur? However, the word "redskin" most certainly is.Originally Posted by BuffalosFinest

Many people just can't grasp the concept of changing with the times.
I can remember reading Tom Sawyer as a kid. There was a character called ****** Jim (that was the N word that got filtered.)
Anyway, all the kids in class were shocked (and giggled a bit) over the fact that this guy was called ****** Jim. But, I guess, way back when, the word was acceptable.
So, just because something was acceptable 100 years ago, doesn't mean it has to be acceptable today.
But, are the lawsuits ridiculous? Maybe they are. But, redskin, clearly is, and always was, a derogatory term. If you don't think so, then walk into one of the smoke shops on the reservation, and say "What's up, Redskin."
In todays society we must all be political correct. Many years ago some liberal started that idea. No wonder our society is in the mess it is in.
Russia didn't make me vote for Trump, Hillary did.
"Redskin" (as far as I know) is only used when referring to the Football team or someone who got sunburned.Originally Posted by therising

Its just that after decades of hearing all of these vile words of ignorance, I've NEVER heard "Redskins" used pejoratively towards Native Americans,
SO-
I never attached any importance to the word "Redskin"
Makes sense though: Going up to an American Indian and saying, "hi, Redskin!" I can see the insult part, but "Redskin" lacks the hundreds-of-years of pure malice that the "N" word has or racism against any group of people.
As I wrote, the American Indian has been sc-wed over repeatedly by the vile Eurotrash that conquered this nation and they have every right to nearly every business and welfare break possible
I just did not IMAGINE that racism against Native Americans is STILL going on
(in the last fifty years to now).
Maybe I've just been naive

My initial response is "of course it's ridiculous!"
Jack Ken Cooke, Redskins owner, went to a tribe in South Dakota (I believe in the 60's) and asked them to design a logo of which they, and the entire organization, could be proud. The Sioux (I think) were happy to oblige. If that does not exemplify respectful use and tacit approval, I don't know what is.
However, think about the Indians Chief Wahoo. Pretty damn insulting if you're an American Indian. Damn good thing they got rid of him.
The part that bugs me is, who gets to draw that line?
~WnyresidentBut your being a dick
What's next, The Fighting Irish?
Grow a thicker Redskin and quit your bitching. They gave permission to use the name and logo, and now they're taking it back. What a bunch of Indian givers!
this whole thread reminds me of the Seinfeld episode about the Cigar Store Indian while Jerry was dating the American Indian girl..........funny stuff..............Originally Posted by FisherRd

However, my whole point is that if it such a hateful word a lawsuit would have been brought up before almost sixty years have passed. The whole lawsuit simply looks like a group of people looking for a free handout from a huge business.
