The Ira G. Ross Aerospace Museum has officially announced plans to move to HSBC Arena from Niagara Falls.

The museum, formerly the Niagara Aerospace Museum, is moving from its longtime home on Third Avenue to a portion of the first floor in HSBC Arena. The relocation comes after the museum's former home was acquired by the Seneca Gaming Corp. for its corporate headquarters.
The museum has been dormant for the past few months as its directors scouted for a new home, with downtown Buffalo serving as its first choice.
What remains unclear is whether the museum will remain permanently in the arena or move into the second floor of the nearby DLW Terminal. The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority and the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. are talking about the harbor development agency using the century-old terminal's second floor as home base for several local museums.

The current deal came together through negotiations between the museum, Buffalo Sabres and ECHDC. The museum is leasing 10,000-square-feet in the arena.

The museum is expected to open by early August. It comes on the heels of the acclaimed debut of the $53 million Erie Canal terminus site, the first phase of a multi-pronged effort to re-development Buffalo's inner harbor.
