    Town Clerk Jaros To Retire

Why is it that the Tax receiver/Town Clerk just ran for office in Nov, wins...and a few months later retires?? She states that it is for personal reasons...what are they? Rumors were floating before the election that she planned on doing this. WHY??? Who will the board appoint ast the next town clerk? Could they already know who they want?

I think that the time is NOW to make this remove this as an elected position. There should be minimum requirements...like some education and maybe some good communication and people skills (and good management skills) to be the head of that office. Jaros collects millions in school districts taxes and does not invest a penny to earn any interest. Instead she holds it a while..and eventually sends it off to the school districts. This is one of many many things that she didn't do in that office. This person should be subject to a civil service exam!!!!! It should not be Mary Wik OR Billy O....let's get some fresh blood and new innovative ideas in that office!!!! Also-don't they have two deputy clerks? maybe they can reduce this to only one...and again...the person should meet some minimum qualifications.

Will Jaros get lifetime Health Insurance as a retiree??????

Rumors have been circulating for years about Jaros retiring. At long last, she is. And she will not be missed. She was difficult to work with (and for) and was partly responsible for the Town losing the deal for People Inc to buy the Mennonite building. So, the Town is stuck with that cost. She wasn't even in town for the election last year. She knew she was retiring.

Heaven help us if her replacement is Mary Wik. She would be a disaster.

Isn't it too late to get someone on the ballot for Novermber? So, whoever is appointed will have incumbent advantage for 1 1/2 years.

Smiley, say it isn't so. Are you sure? Has she got the 4 GOP votes? Is it too late to get this on the ballot for the 08 election?

Is it Wik because it would be the fastest, easiest thing to do? And we would be stuck with her until the term ends in three years.

The problem is this position can not be a part of this comming election. Once an election is held for any position and if the incumbent, during that term of office, leaves office for any reason, another person can be placed in that position to finish out the term. Then he/she would have to run and be elected for that position. As far as Mary goes, IMHO she is going to be placed in that spot.

I don't think the TB would appoint her. Hopefully Hayes will do what he can to protect the Town from Mary Wik!

If for one second you do not think that this announcement of an elected official's retirement was not calculated to include the inability to include a timely election to fill this position you are truly mistaken. As far as a proper replacement is concerned, the individual that holds this position until a couple of weeks from now did not do justice to the overall purpose of consolidating the two departments of Town Clerk and Receiver of Taxes. Many services went by the wayside including the proper archiving of the various town records in various departments. This is one of the prime(if not the most important) duty of this position. I do not see any evidence of either of her deputies being capable of properly managing and carrying out the necessary tasks assigned to this office.
