I've wanted to build a fireplace/grill like yours in my backyard for years. I never got around to it. My neighbor has a really nice one, but he hardly ever uses it.

The year was 2000. You're right the deer and the Indians were here long before me.

Mine is very old. I have to fill in the mortar between the bricks every year and only use it for burning branches.
