Who checks in on the elderly

Who monitors the elderly in Erie County. Specially the ones who don't have anyone.

Chuck Swanik used to check in on them just before every election.

I don't know if he still does since he left politics?

    What is wrong with people?

I just recently met a woman who cares for an elderly couple. According to her, this couple has lost all decision making privilages. Their family lives in the same town in which the son literally lives on the same road about 7 houses away. She says the family never visits, doesnt answer their phone and very rarely do they return phone calls.

During yesterdays wind storm they were without power all day, even though they had a brand new generator sitting on the back porch with no gasoline in it.

I spoke with my care giver friend at about 10am, when I offered to drive the 35 miles and get the generator running and connect it to the house. She explained that she prviously had strict instructions from the family to not touch the generator.

So, my friend used extra blankets to keep the couple and herself warm not knowing when power would be restored. And on top of that, because school was closed, she had to bring her 3 daughters [13,10,9] with her who were restricted to a spare bedroom on the other side of the house all day. 8am to about 6pm.

    - Absent elderly couples family.
    - Absent father of 3 girls.

ISNT AMERICA SUCH A WONDERFUL PLACE?

I will, but I don't know where to start.

That's why Meals on Wheels, and like organizations are also good, they provide the obvious, but perhaps more important, are a link for the seniors to the outside world.

Pat, You should post under the "Speakout Here" category. This one is obscure.

By "outside world" do you mean that Jean M. Bennett invites them over to her house to watch movies in surround sound?

The former head of the KenTon Meals on Wheels admitted using the non-profit organization’s credit card to purchase for herself a home theater sound system, restaurant meals, alcohol and several floral arrangements over the past several years, Town of Tonawanda police say.

Although police did not reveal the total amount spent, a town council member said he was told it amounts to about $30,000.

Jean M. Bennett, 39, of Buffalo, admitted to the thefts in court “more than a month ago,” police said this week. They added that she has a July 1 court appearance.

I have witnessed 2 individuals in my family who did not get a fair deal with construction or home repairs. I ask you to help me help them.

Are you looking for volunteers to assist elderly people free of charge?

If so, that's very nice of you.

not free of charge or volunteers, thats what the taxes to an oversized government for a reduced population are for...if you want to help, take action.
