Oh great!!!! We'll be building a monument to Satish.I wonder if it will include a statue of our great leader for the pidgeons to poop on.
This was reported in the Amherst Bee, Satish Mohan wants to build a 10 million dollar new Town Hall. File this one under unecessary, extravagant and incredible expenses.
Here are some excerpts from the article;
Supervisor Satish Mohan said the departments housed in the current Main Street Town Hall have outgrown the building and a new and larger one is needed.
He has proposed erecting a new Town Hall in the next two years, at a cost of
no more than $10 million.
“The feasibility is easy. There are two ways to do it: bond the money to build
one or have a developer build one and lease it,” he said.
One of the areas Mohan is considering is the John James Audubon Parkway
complex, where the Police Department, Town Court, Center for Senior Services and Audubon Library are located.
Mohan believes the current location in the Village of Williamsville (the
southernmost section of town) is inconvenient for many residents, and the offices should be closer to the center of town.
“The location is not suitable for our emerged town,” he said. “The population
has increased in the north portion of town.”

Did amherst really grow in population?

It is wise to question all of Satish Mohan's premises and utterances. If this new Town Hall gambit is really about the convenience of residents rather than a smoke screen to aggrandize Satish Mohan and detract from Satish Mohan's overall glaring incompetence, then you really have to wonder how many residents wake up each day actually longing for a new Town Hall. If you figure the average resident visits Town Hall twice in a lifetime, then what sense does it make to spend $10,000,000 on a new Town Hall for the convenience of those residents so they can spend five minutes less time in their cars twice in a lifetime?Originally Posted by WNYresident

anybody want to guess on the developer
Wouldn't that 6 mill he took from the town surplus have gone a long way toward his town hall? But in the larger sense keep the town hall where it is accessable to all the public.

Shelly must be getting tired of living over a smelly restaurant.
And if it is truly about convenience for those living in Amherst, New York, USA wouldn't one consider the weighting of population... which would prolly bring the "center" a bit South of Audubon Parkway... maybe, like, Maple/Forest area... in which case, what would be the practicality of moving it at all. For those of you that know me, you'll know that I've harped on this (both under my breath and in public meetings) each time the "move Town Hall" chant starts. Does anyone have a good/better guess as to where the center of Amherst is population-wise?Originally Posted by Liberty
Hey, maybe they could just bulldoze the current Town Hall and operate out of a fleet of Winnebagos.
Why in the world would taxpayers want to spend ten million dollars (and we know based on what happened with teh Eggertsville Comm Center it will cost much more than originally anticipated) on a new Town Hall? Mohan already stated that he has reduced the number of employees so space should not be an issue. He really is NUTS!!!!!!!
Can a third floor be added to the present Town Hall? At last resort Maple and No Forest in the old Vix lot. Maybe it would be best to keep it right where it is. Then they can't hire anymore employees cause they wont have anyplace to put them.

Yes, the existing Town Hall was originally built to accommodate a third floor. There is also room at the Harlem Road Community Center if any Town Hall dept. felt the need for more space. But the question begs - THERE ARE BIGGER PROBLEMS TO BE SOLVED IN AMHERST THAN A LARGER OFFICE FOR KING MOHAN! Fix the assessment situation, have a dialog with the University, tax relief for businesses, ad infinitum. With this latest Mohan big idea, now I'm sure he's senile.

Watching Town Board meetings its becoming obvious that Satish is getting tired of Shelly trying to control everything. She has an opinion on everything. The meetings would end much sooner if she would stop grandstanding. The more she opens her mouth the more apparent it becomes. This women is consumed with her power. Shelly your political career is over-your legacy will be just another backstabbing ignorant*itch.
Her legacy is that she is/was the dumbest TB member in Amherst history.
