The Lockport Winterfest is this weekend. It runs from Friday through Monday.

Friday

Outdoor events at Altro Park, 201 Willow St.

• Celebrity broomball, 5 to 7 p.m. Local “all-stars” from the sport’s heyday do a demonstration game.

• Teen broomball games, 7 to 9 p.m. Youth games are organized by the youth department; for registration information, call 434-3071.

• Open skate, 7 to 10:30 p.m.

• Great Skate Donate, 4:30 to 10:30 p.m. Bring old and unused skates to the youth bureau so they can loan them out.

Indoor event at Skateland, 1101 Lincoln Ave.

• Family skate, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Admission free to families; $2 skate rentals and $3 inline skate rentals.



Saturday

Rogers Avenue Park

• Ice hockey challenge and contests, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., weather permitting. Youths ages 5 to 11 are welcome to enter skating, stick handling and shooting contests.



Sunday

All events at Kenan Center Arena, Beattie Avenue

• Kidstuff, noon to 4 p.m. Look for carnival games and face painting by YMCA Teen Leaders, a craft corner for artists ages 3 to 10, a petting zoo and wagon rides, basketball demos and youth clinics by Buffalo Silverbacks, and snowshoeing for all ages by New York State Parks.

• Chili cookoff, noon to 4 p.m. or until sold out. Celebrity chefs compete for the “Lockport’s best chili” award; sale proceeds benefit local charities. Chefs are Ross Ferchen, Dyan and Joan Mulvey, Sgt. Frank Cobb for New York Army National Guard, Annette Biondo for Advantage Physical Therapy, Angie Stachera for House of Hope, and Joe and Kelly Speer for J. Speer Renovations. Judging takes place around 1:30 p.m.

• Indoor baby races, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Speed demons in diapers compete in three age divisions: 6 to 12 months, 12 to 18 months and 18 to 24 months. Register at noon at the Kenan arena. Prizes go to top finishers.

• Magic shows by Garrett Thomas, 1 to 3 p.m.

• Dodgeball tournament, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Six-person teams pay a $12 entry fee; prizes are awarded for best team costume and division winners. To pre-register or find out more about which age divisions play when, call 434-3071.

• Kan Jam 2008 Winter Klassic, 4 to 8 p.m. Kan Jam is an organized Frisbee game. For tournament information, call Eric Klavoon at 930-7308 or visit www.kanjam.com. Registration costs $20 per two-person team. Proceeds benefit Carly’s Club at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.



Monday

Kenan Center Arena

• “Showdown” roller hockey skills competition, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For ages 7 and older. Hockey skills are tested in fastest skater, shooting accuracy, passing accuracy, stick handling and breakaway events. Registration costs $5 per person. Registration begins at 11 a.m.; contests begin at 11:30 a.m.; and an awards ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. Showdown is organized by the Kenan Center. For more information, call 433-2619.
