Judge states casino must be built in Buffalo

Cheektowaga Town Attorney Michael Stachowski contends the language allows the Nation to build wherever they want in Erie County and says he intends to appeal the decision.
Just in general, what about all the residents that don't want a casino in Cheektowaga. Do we really want the town attorney wasting our money trying to appeal this? IF he loses it's JUST another waste of our tax money. Do we really want our town pursuing this at our expense? Isn't there better things he can be up to?

    Cool

Yes... There are other avenues to seek out. You must remember that when dealing with the Supervisor and Town Attorney in Cheektowaga, history holds that they do as THEY wish and not what the taxpayers desire. It is time for creative development to bring major business to Cheektowaga not minimum wage positions as restaurants and the like. Our town needs to seek out those looking for a great place to do business and show those businesses that we have the work force to fill available positions. Our elected officials have for many years been making it difficult if not in some cases impossible to do business in Cheektowaga. We must change direction and we must change now, if not we will soon follow in the footsteps of Buffalo.........

How can you say it's difficult to do business in cheektowaga when it looks like business fantasy land on union road with all the strip plazas and empty buildings up and down union. Wouldn't you say it's a little too easy to do business with cheektowaga? They sort of neglect there are acutal people living around all the development they allow?

I live in Cheektowaga, and dont mind them spending money to apeal this decision, for every no casino resident I'd bet you find a pro casino person. In my circles you'll find more pro than con, but admittedly I have a strange circle

You are correct about the strip plazas and structures. Most of this property is or has been developed by the Benderson Corp. As you may well know, Benderson has left town for the Sunshine State. These vacant buildings do not at least in my mind contribute anything for the betterment of the community. Why is it we don't search out companies like Geico where many if not most can earn a living to support a family. Just how well can a clerk in a store provide for his or family. This is why many young families have to work a total of two or three jobs simply to make ends meet. There are at least two businesses on Union Road that nearly left town to do business elsewhere because of anti business tactics mostly by Councilman Thomas Johnson. Attend some of the meetings in town hall which are open to the public to see for yourself the anti-business attitude that prevails.

As to YOKES, It does not matter what circles we run in. All of us as a community must examine all the facts of an issue and then decide with as much honesty and integrity as we can offer to make the right decisions relative to any community matter. You may not recall but several years ago I wrote an article which was then hand delivered to Gov. Pataki's Head of Security with a promise it would be given to the Governor. I then offered a serious casino proposal in Cheektowaga with certain terms and conditions that would have been a win win situation for everyone. Gabryszak by the way laughed and said I had to be crazy to even think of a casino in Cheektowaga.....

I agree. But even with collective thinking there will always be a pro/con of every issue. Emotion seems to dictate much opinion, which is fine, but not very productive. Unfortunantly you can't please everyone all the time.

Nope not familiar with it. I would love to read it though if you could send it to me (I think you can send attachments via PM), I would be interested in seeing it.

Personally I think it can be a win/win. The City's lawsuit though seems to be more of a 4 year old screaming if I can't have it no-one can, and at the end of the day its another "idea" for WNY that will go by way of the peace bridge, and frankly no-one wins when nothing gets done.

Thanks for your reply. I will try to find a hard copy of that issue of Insidecheektowaga. At that time it was printed in hard copy and not yet on the web.
