About asbestos siding abatement:

A dictionary check shows the meaning of abatement to include to "beat down" and "to blunt".

Someone [a homeowner wearing a nose and mouth mask] carefully taking down a piece of broken asbestos by carefully removing the ridged nails first--I believe there is a tool besides a claw hammer to remove those nails, and after the first piece is removed, the rest are easy to do--then carefully removing a broken section of siding, replacing it and re-nailing the new piece is far different and totally safer from an actual well-paid crew's removing asbestos siding.

Prior to demolition, asbestos abaters actually ABATE the siding. That is, they smash the siding off of a building. That method not only causes some of those hook-like fibers to be airborne; that method also leaves some behind in the soil.

Those 'professional' abaters make a mess. It also takes them much time to attempt to clean up the pieces that were smashed and fell down. Smashing is time consuming and it is not possible for them to get all the smallest pieces this smashing method leaves on the ground. Then they simply remove their masks and white paper suits at the site--creating future Meso sufferers--including all within the airborne area?

Using a tool to pull out the nails first then pulling out the pieces and handling them carefully most likely would not only be much safer but, if done with a skill that is quickly learned, would not consume nearly as much time and would require fewer workers.

I believe those suffering from Mesothelioma are basically the original employees who worked with the loose asbestos fibers forming them into various products including siding. It is not the people who purchase asbestos products who contract this dreadful disease. (Then, of course, there is the proper disposal of all products containing asbestos.)

Firefighter Reed's mom has a great idea.

It may be informative for those whom she is asking to contribute to know there is a quicker, much safer and less costly way for demolition costs concerning buildings with asbestos siding.
