    Senior Center - Martin Road

DID YOU KNOW THAT THE SENIOR CENTER HAD A KILN?

    City Council Meeting Minutes
    March 20, 2006

The Senior Center currently has a kiln on premises, which has been there since the Center was built. For various reasons, it is not being used. A few of those reasons are, the amount of dust created, lack of instructor due to unfeasibility; and the lid has a crack in it which makes it inoperable until replaced.

The kiln was subsequently sold to a lady for $100 in May of 2006.

    Emergency Headquarters?

DOES THE COMMUNITY KNOW ABOUT THIS?

    City Council Meeting Minutes
    November 6, 2006

This letter is to advise the Council that the Lackawanna Senior Citizen Center, 230 Martin Road is designated as the official headquarters for any emergency or disaster that occurs in the City of Lackawanna. The building will also serve as our command center for city workers, volunteers, etc. This is where we will house people that have been displaced by any emergency such as the storm that occurred in early October.

Senior Center - Hub of Lackawanna's Emergency Action Plan?

In 2010, the City of Lackawanna received a $200,000 grant secured by Senator Stachowski that allowed the Martin Road Senior Center to replace, repair and update the building and a/c unit, etc. as well as adding a natural gas powered emergency generator which is CRITICAL because The Lackawanna Senior Center facility is "the hub of Lackawanna's emergency action plans."

On Senator Stachowski's website, he was quoted as saying that the Center is an "essential part of Lackawanna's emergency and preparedness plans."

Mayor Polanski said that he was grateful to the senator for his efforts in "improving the lives of the seniors of Lackawanna."

O.K., FOLKS...IF THE MARTIN ROAD SENIOR CENTER IS THE "HUB" OF THE LACKAWANNA'S EMERGENCY ACTION AND PREPAREDNESS PLANS...WHY DOESN'T THE AVERAGE RESIDENT KNOW THIS? IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY, WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED IN THIS "HUB"?
