Make sure your "leak" isn't really just an ice problem that can easily be taken care of by you in the next 45 minutes, to include labor, Home Depot Run, and clean up.

If it's due to ice, go to Lowes (they have the big bags and it's much cheaper than what Depot has) and get Calcium Caltrate (I believe that's the name...it's not salt, it's white, and it's safe for roofs).

Tell us more about the leak so we can give you the right pointers.

It is an ice issue. One part of the roof wasn't done correctly and needs to be redone. There is a small part of the roof that should have been done with rubber because the slope was too shallow. The ice built up and is now leaking down a wall into the bathroom.

Go buy the 50lb bag of calcium caltrate and a roof rake. Rake the roof, pour some of the calcium caltrate on it, and waych that problem disappear for the time being.
I'm not handy in the least, and I got my ice problem under control in about 2 two hour sessions.

I did that and also chipped away the ice dam on the gutter with a claw hammer. I had a leak during the last thaw. Waiting for the warmer temps on the weekend to see if my work paid off.

In the summer, I'm installing this thermal gutter cable on the roof with little pitch

Those are along the gutters.... We were chopping ice for a few days straight when it first started to leak.

I was thinking about the handy hand torch but then wondered how many propane containers it would take to clear the gutters...

News at 11.... local guy burns house down while de-icing gutters...
