Vehicle thefts on the rise in some Western New York suburbs

The Buffalo News published a lengthy report on the rise of car thefts in some Western New York suburbs. The report stated: ‘Several Western New York municipalities have kicked off the new year with a rise in vehicle thefts.’ Besides the City of Buffalo the reported suburbs were the towns of West Seneca, Cheektowaga, Amherst. Tonawanda, and Grand Island.

As the Town of Lancaster was not included in the report one can only assume there is nothing of significance to report – or a reluctance to report anything Yet, I have heard of two car thefts taking place in Lancaster since January 1, 2024. I would suggest that at the next town board meeting Lancaster Police Chief Gummo present a report on car thefts in Lancaster, as well as scheduled reports on number of vehicular accident (vehicle / injuries, and number of police response calls. Last year there were over 600 police calls initiated by two businesses.

Number of Incidents and calls, no personal information.

Such data not only provides residents with town operation status but fortifies the need for a moratorium (a pause) to address outstanding issues that impact residents’ safety and quality of life.

One could be left to assume that defunding police, and voting for liberal politicians, DA's and judges are bad for preventing and fighting crime? Call me shocked. You get what you vote for.

    Lee,

During the 8:00 a.m. hour of a fall morning in 2022, there is what a understand to have been a reckless motorist, driving a stolen car in excess of 90 mph speeding down our street, nearly hitting our car and several VOL DPW workers, so I join you in your call for data.

I think highly of our police and feel safe living in my town, safe while shopping, dining and conducting any business within its border.

In today’s progressive-socialist oriented government defunding the police, cashless bail, unresisted smash & grab retail theft, assault on the elderly and weak, Lancaster appears to be free from such concerns.

Like many others, I feel the need to see some data or hear assurances regarding the security status of my town. Available data concerning the number of categorized calls not only keeps its residents informed of the town’s security and aid status, but validates the size of the force, its efficacy, and assists in supporting the building moratorium.

In the private sector BS walks, data talks!

I had an incident tonight. At 11:00, someone was knocking at my front door and at the same time using the 'F' word every other word. I messaged my daughter-in-law and they were on their way back from grandson's hockey game. In the mean time, they started knocking on my side door. When my son and his family puled in, they were trying to get at the door lock.
My son chased them. My daughter-in-law called the cops. 4 cars came. My son told them they went down Taft street.
They got the man and woman and walked by my house with them and took them across the street. The drunken idiots had the wrong house.

There was an immediate response form the LPD.
