Criminal probe targets city's auto impound

A criminal probe has been launched into operations at the city's auto impound, The Buffalo News has learned.

One long-time city employee has been suspended in connection with the investigation, Mayor Byron W. Brown's administration confirmed this morning.

The probe involves allegations that an employee may have skimmed money off the sale prices of some vehicles sold at city auctions.

Parking Commissioner Kevin J. Helfer, whose department oversees the auto impound on Dart Street, did not return calls to comment. Mayoral spokesman Peter K. Cutler confirmed that an investigation is under way, but he refused to confirm the identity of the employee who is targeted in the probe.

How did they catch the guy?

Aren't you one of those complaining about the comptroller watching Chris Collins and the gang to be certain they don't pull a Joel Giambra furniture fiasco?

Insiders can always find a way to beat the system...at least for a little while.

The county's auto and used equipment like furniture ,computers etc Auctions were a joke too..

They would pull off everything on a vehicle and say it didn't run and then their buddies would buy the vehicles..

I haven't been to one under Collins but that was a typical MO under Giambra's administration.

It doesn't matter what party.. It's always collusion..
Kiss someone that's different. It helps.
Lets get the facts first, then go for the jugular!!
It's all transparent, just read between the lines..
