It's interesting to see the years and generations pass with the new technology and how it affects day to day lives.
I love writing letters. I love talking on the phone. I am getting into the texting. I just have to know what the lingo is like~~lol, wtf, stuff like that. Grammer is also not at the greatest level when texting too.

Right.. and issues with hearing are happening at younger and younger ages.
Also early video games weren't like they are now. Tetris wasn't simulating blowing off someones body parts. And video games are addicting and the more involved they become the more addicting they become.
Anything in moderation but children should develop imagination and relationships to nature, not sit in a dark room staring at a machine pressing buttons.
Kids should play cops and robbers not grand theft auto.
I remember seeing some boys who would spend days drinking mountain dew and playing video games with little or no sleep.

I don't know how I feel about my children having cell phones. They are still to young to even consider it but I just think it's indulging a generation that is already incredibly spoiled and lazy.
Does anyone remember pagers? I had one.

What age is it appropriate for a child to have a cell phone?
based more on maturity than anything. I am just weary of the effect it could have on children to connect from a developmental standpoint. I guess it depends on the kids and their families, home life etc.
I just think about my cousin whose 16 sitting with her friends and none of them talking to eachother just all sitting there on their cell phones.

@domfem -you nialed it - that is where some parental responsibility comes into play. My daughter texts constantly (son plays games more than anything else on his phone), but there are limitations imposed by the parents, no phone at dinner or during a conversation with me (when we are actually talking and not texting). I have been at family gatherings and simply told my daughter and/or her cousins to put the phone away for a bit and engage in some good "old-fashioned" conversations. Believe it or not they usually comply rather willingly
